Onto Bramall Lane
Our FA Cup run has been a chink of sunshine peeping out between dark clouds this season and I still can’t believe we have made it to the last eight of the FA Cup for only the 4th time in my 40 years supporting the club.
The performances have been good though, especially on the road and just when we appeared to reach new lows in the league a Cup game would appear on the fixture list, we’d collectively frown, and then they’d go and put in a professional performance. Another would be pretty sexy.
Not deterred by a midday kick off a couple of hundred miles away, 5,500 Addicks will make their way up to Sheffield on Sunday by road and rail and will give CP and his boys huge backing.
This is a day to enjoy and a welcome break from the grind of Championship survival, we can worry about that again next week.
The photo is of the away end at Bristol City in 1994. I was in there somewhere and certainly didn’t have the view of the bloke in the white top. We grabbed a 5th Round draw and beat them in the replay at The Valley before double the number of Addicks decamped to Old Trafford for a bit of a knees up, when Quarter Final expectations were a little lower.
I was unable to muster enough brownie points to fly back for the game on Sunday, but I’ll be watching at home with my breakfast. Give them a proper Charlton backing. Come on you Addicks!

I was in there somewhere as well. Near Steve Dixon, as I recall (name-dropper). My brother & I had parked in what turned out to be an awkward location – we had to work our way round three sides of Ashton Gate to avoid getting chased by over-excited City fans.
Great day, I was there, even managed some rough play with excited Bristolions Great Valley evening for the replay and subsequent trip to Old Trafford. Can’t make Sunday but will be glued to a big screen with an ale in my hand, followed by the rugby clash of nations, hers to an Addicks & England victorious weekend.
Yes, had a few merry dances with the Bristolians myself that day.
Great pic CA – I was at the back but would have moved forward if I’d known how much room there was! I’m not looking at all beyond Sunday. Just looking forward to a good sing song before the probable onset of end season disaster – a last blast! Gave up my Stranglers ticket for tomorrow night before they switched the game to Sunday – but as our coach leaves at 6 am may be that wasn’t such a bad thing…
