2013 Top Five CAFC Defining Moments
And the final piece on my 2013 Top 5’s. Charlton’s defining moments could mean pretty much anything, but I have attempted to pick five that stood out in my mind from last year as particular landmarks to me.
Here they are then, you will all each have your own, but the following were my Top 5 CAFC Defining Moments from last year:
1. December 28th – First rumours of Roland Duchatelet’s takeover
The Daily Mail were first to carry to story just a couple of days before the turn of the year. Duchatelet’s approach to owning football clubs is something that we really could reap the benefits from in the long term. His approach has a lot more in common with what most fans would want for their club than not, but it has not been an easy bedding in period.
2. 30th March – Beating Bolton Wanderers 3-2
0-2 down in 20 minutes and it appeared a familiar Valley home game from last season, but we bounced back to win and this propelled the Addicks on a 8-game unbeaten run leaving us wishing that we had a few more games to play as we ended the season a very impressive 9th, just a few points off the play-off’s.
3. August 24th – Doncaster Rovers game being abandoned
A strange event at The Valley and an abandoned game. We were losing 1-3, but won the replayed game. Little were we to know that this was the catalyst for what has been a very, very tough season for the team and not to mention the pitch.
4. 13 April – Winning at Barnsley 6-0
I cannot omit this. These days do not come along very often and the biggest away victory (photo) in our 108-year history will live long in the memory, especially for the 672 Addicks at Oakwell.
5. November 3rd – Winning at Birmingham 1-0
You can’t beat a really good away day and my son and a couple of mates enjoyed this day out at Birmingham earlier in the season showing that Powell and his team have the fight and the spirit to pull ourselves out of danger.
