Greek tragedy
So because of a Champions League match taking place in Piraeus between Olympiacos and Manchester United, Charlton and Sheffield Wednesday have to play their FA Cup game on a Monday night. And because the allotted amount of live televised games for the 5th Round has been met, the game at Hillsborough won’t be on the telly either. And all those parents desperately trying to keep their kids occupied in bad weather during half-term would now have to take them out of school to watch, what is to many, the biggest game of the season. And the bloody Barnsley game is off, when I planned to be in town. And I can’t get to Sheffield because I have to work on the Monday, any other day I would’ve been scurrying up the M1.
Ooh, I am so annoyed, particularly at UEFA not allowing us to play a FA Cup game the same poxy night as a Champions League game 2,160 miles away. One assumes a league game is fine though? I guess this is what we have to get used to, shoe-horning games into dates that fit with everyone else?
On the loan front Shaun Wright Phillips has turned down a loan move to the Addicks. Can’t say I am worried, I always thought Bradley Wright Phillips was better than Shaun anyhow.
Some of last week’s rumours do seem to have legs though. Leon Best was interested in the move to The Valley, but Sheffield Wednesday offered more money so strangely he took that route instead. Tony Pulis has said Jonathan Williams won’t be loaned out until next week. Roland and Katrien are clearly doing some work, although probably for the first time in England, and Duchatelet is known to be untrusting of agents.
On a different note Sky are saying that Alan Curbishley’s return to the game is over.
