It was a real delight to read the Blogs and reports last night and this morning after yesterday’s game. There isn’t much more enthralling than a Charlton game at The Valley, under the lights, singing and shouting yourself hoarse and leaving the ground proud of the team.
It sounded a performance to make the heart sing and the support and backing of Chris Powell and his players showed once again how the gaffer is viewed by the supporters. As importantly to us was that it proved again that the players have what it takes to compete in this division.
Significantly those at the game found it hard to pick a man of the match, so good were individual performances and the team as a whole. A couple of key indicators for me was the performance again of Jordan Cousins. I would really try to build this season’s team around him, because let’s face it, we don’t know how long we will have him.
Richard Wood maybe the leader and the auhtority that we need at the back. Dale Stephens took the game by the scruff of the neck and we are such a better team offensively when he does this. Andy Hughes coming on late just filled me with confidence and I wasn’t even there and finally Marvin Sordell didn’t do an awful lot by some accounts, but for the second time this season he put away a poachers goal. My, how we could do with a goal-poacher.
Of course it was a one-off game (as was Millwall) and we (and the crowd) have to show consistency. But as you know, or you should know, we have a little habit of coming to the fore in the face of adversity. Let’s stick together.

Powell-ometer: Missing the spine of the team and with just 18 fit players Powell opted for a diamond shaped midfield with Harriott in the hole and Cousins in front of the back four. That provided a much more fluent performance.
Elsewhere: Burnley went top after another impressive display beating Doncaster away 2-0, Leicester won 2-1 at Yeovil and are 3rd, Reading drew at Barnsley and Blackpool were held by Bolton. Birmingham thrashed a previously rampant Millwall 4-0 and Jordan Rhodes scored his 8th goal of the season as Blackburn beat Watford 1-0. Leeds ended a run of four defeats with a win over 10-man Bournemouth, Huddersfield’s James Vaughan also scored his 8th goal in the 1-1 draw at Middlesbrough and A late goal from Keith Andrews rescued a point for Brighton after Sheffield Wednesday seemed set for their first win of the season. The craziest game was at Pride Park when it took a Steve McClaren half-time rollocking to inspire Derby to come back at 1-4 down to draw at home to Ipswich.
