Farewell and good luck Paul Hayes
Paul Hayes today moved to Brentford on a free transfer. For someone that was only at the club for just over a year and played in 22 games, he was remarkably popular with Charlton fans.
Hayes handled himself with dignity and professionalism, and his like are unfortunately a dying breed. He was obviously well liked by his teammates as well and his early form, some crucial goals and partnership with BWP was the platform on what our record breaking season was built.
I was surprised when I found out what Hayes earned at Charlton, he won’t get that money at Brentford but he has signed a 3-year contract which at 28 is worth something. He leaves with my very best wishes and I will look on with interest at how the Bees do this season.
Meanwhile the training ground was awash with rumours today. The new Under 21 Professional Development League team beat QPR 1-0, Cedric Evina with a late penalty. But there were whispers that Ricardo Fuller was there too and Alex McLeish was definitely there, scouting, one would assume.
Bristol City today gave up on their chase of Sam Baldock and paid a fee said to be £750,000 for Derby’s Steve Davies. The Rams immediately replaced him with Wigan’s Conor Sammon, who cost £1.2m! Yes, if I had heard of him too I maybe able to pass comment on that fee.
A move for free agent Fuller with therefore no fee, plus I would’ve thought a BWP-type contract to protect us from any ongoing injury concerns appears a lot more likely than a move for Sam Baldock, in my opinion.

From a Brentford fan, I’m really excited about Hayes signing. Yes we lack the money to pay his wages he was on at Charlton but he obviously loves football and came to us. From what I’ve heard he’s a really good purchase especially on a free.
A good purchase and a good man John. Good luck for the season and thanks for popping by.
Curbs had Fuller on trial eons ago, before he played in England…. Just proves if you wait long enough, you get your man. Should be quality at this level, hopefully he joins.
