Brentford ‘Pay What You Can’ offer

Brentford are asking supporters to pay whatever they want to watch them play Stevenage on Saturday. There is a minimum entry fee of £1 for all ages in any seat in the home areas.

The Bees under Uwe Rosler have been on a sparkling run of form that has seen them move into a League One automatic promotion place after beating Sheffield United, Swindon, MK Dons and Notts County in recent weeks and now in these tough financial times at a very expensive time of year, the West Londoners should be congratulated on proposing this clever marketing idea.

Farewell and good luck Paul Hayes

Paul Hayes today moved to Brentford on a free transfer. For someone that was only at the club for just over a year and played in 22 games, he was remarkably popular with Charlton fans.

Hayes handled himself with dignity and professionalism, and his like are unfortunately a dying breed. He was obviously well liked by his teammates as well and his early form, some crucial goals and partnership with BWP was the platform on what our record breaking season was built.

Hayes and Doherty go out on loan

Both have signed for Wycombe Wanderers until the end of the season. Both are ineligible to play against us in April.

Now The Doc is not a surprise but Hayes is. With Danny Haynes injured it leaves us rather short up front. Clarke has yet to make his mark and beyond him we only have the untried, albeit exciting prospects of Tobi Sho-Silva and Adebayo Azeez. I wonder if Powell will make a move himself into the loan market?

Free pass

A bit of a free pass this week as the Sheffield clubs don’t meet until Sunday lunchtime, MK Dons do play tonight but there are a huge 6 points up for grabs these next four days.

The games come thick and fast now, no time to dwell on past performances that have caused a little anxiety amongst Addicks, but also include wins against three of our rivals.

We were due a poor run, no one can play for 9 months and beat everyone in sight convincingly. If this is our bad run, then I’ll bite your hand off.

The Vetere and Jiminez influence?

Quite a day on the transfer front. Between walking from FAO Schwarz where I was having fun on the big piano to Grand Central Station to meet a friend for lunch Charlton had made three signings.

To be honest only Cedric Evina stirs me out of my self-induced Addick coma. Mikel Alonso (pictured) has swapped 3rd Division Spanish football for 3rd Division English football and Paul Hayes hopefully is back in a level more suited to him.
