Sony Ericsson Open
Currently taking place in Key Biscayne, Miami is the Sony Ericsson Open tennis tournament, one of the ATP World Tour Masters events. All of the world’s best players are in Miami and we have tickets for the men’s final next Sunday.
The event takes place at the Tennis Center at Crandon Park, which is itself a large urban park occupying the northern part of Key Biscayne which is connected to mainland Miami by bridge.
Last year 316,000 people came through the gates during the 14-day tournament and in the men’s finals Novak Djokovic beat Rafael Nadal whilst Victoria Azarenka beat Maria Sharapova in the women’s.
So far, there have been no shocks in the singles and as the competition moves into the last 16 all the top seeds remain.
We arrive in Miami on Saturday and will stay again in the historic Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables. Then Monday morning we fly out to Vail in Colorado for a week of skiing in Beaver Creek. The spring weather has been incredibly warm in the Colorado mountains but there should be enough snow for us to ski, although I might well leave my ski jacket behind.
