As happy as a pig in muck

That’s why we’re Champions! I thought to myself as I followed the fortunes of the League One Play-Off’s this weekend. I had a strong feeling for both Stevenage and MK Dons but at the halfway stage the stronger sides, on paper at least, hold the aces.

Even though I feel only enmity to MK, I would prefer a lesser team to join us and Wednesday in the next level up. The quicker we get to 50 points etc…. Joking, jo-king!

In fact I don’t know about you but I am still wallowing in last Saturday’s events. Indeed about this time last week we were all still raising glasses. It was quite a season wasn’t it?

Hayes and Doherty go out on loan

Both have signed for Wycombe Wanderers until the end of the season. Both are ineligible to play against us in April.

Now The Doc is not a surprise but Hayes is. With Danny Haynes injured it leaves us rather short up front. Clarke has yet to make his mark and beyond him we only have the untried, albeit exciting prospects of Tobi Sho-Silva and Adebayo Azeez. I wonder if Powell will make a move himself into the loan market?

Charlton Athletic 2 Scunthorpe United 2

A disappointing afternoon all round. CAFC Player was at it’s temperamental best only coming to life as the first half ended, thus I got a rather skewed view of the game.

Nevertheless Scunthorpe certainly sounded worth a point. The Iron would appear better equipped than the two other relegated teams for this division and under Alan Knill I have them listed as play-off candidates this season. My mate who gave me a post match report also confirmed that they passed the ball well and there was some delicacy to their play.

The positives are that although it seems like a loss it wasn’t, and there was still some nice passages of play with Hayes and particularly BWP looking threatening and on another day we would have scored more goals.

The downside was it was two points thrown away. We didn’t close the game out and I felt from listening to the commentary that we invited them onto us after they got the incentive of their first goal.

Five star

Peterborough United 1 Charlton Athletic 5
Yesterday I spent the duration of the game sat poolside in the autumn sun sipping on a rum swizzle catching up with an old friend from Chicago. Across the glistening and heated pool was Castle Harbour and lush rolling hills and palm trees.

It’s easy to take Bermuda’s beauty for granted, and I often do, and it’s not very often that I wish I was in Peterborough instead but believe me I would have given anything yesterday to swap my lazy afternoon for standing behind the goal at London Road to witness with my own eyes what 1,358 other Addicks did, everyone of whom will justifiably be talking about this day for a long, long time.
