Kaheim Dixon moves on loan to Crawley

This looks a good move for Kaheim Dixon. The youngster will move to Crawley Town for the season to play under Scot Lindsay in L2.

That’s four players now out on season-long loans – Nathan Asiimwe (AFC Wimbledon), Terry Taylor (Northampton), Gassan Ahadme (Stevenage) and Dixon.

Was that as nervy as it seemed to me?

It might not have been, but Crawley presented a real banana skin tonight and we dealt with the pressure and delivered. Three more points and a clean sheet win on the road.

Happy New Year to those travelling Addicks ☔️. I at least hope that there are plenty of pubs with warm fires and the darts on the telly in the vicinity.

15 minutes before kick-off the referee called the game off. He may well have been hoping for the rain to hold off and the sun to miraculously dry the pitch in that time before kick off, but Met Office radar clearly shows that the rain was not going to subside.

We really are a pitiful excuse of a football team. Devoid of any quality, creativity and ideas.

Desperately dull and ineffective long diagonal hoof ball, circa 1980, hoping, praying for a flick or a defensive mistake to ‘create’ a chance on goal. That is our sole game plan. Our philosophy, our identity. Heaven help us.

Two weeks

Sunderland v Charlton 12.30pm (live on Sky Sports). Two weeks time.

Today, we are at Crawley in the latest pre-season friendly. They have a manager called Harry Kewell, who if rumours were correct could have been Charlton’s manager for the past 6 months!

Expect a team and bench this afternoon with a good sprinkling of academy players. Whilst Elliot Ward has moved on, Simon Dawkins and Rohan Ince will probably feature. Ince is a rather limited defensive midfielder, and was released by Brighton at the end of last season. Ince has been relegated from League One in each of the last two seasons whilst on loan. First of all with Swindon, then with Bury.

Ben Reeves scored a nice little taster of a goal tonight as a youthful Addicks won rather easily at the Checkatrade.com stadium in the pointless Checkatrade Trophy against Crawley Town.

12 academy graduates were named in Robinson’s 16-man squad, who managed to navigate around the stupid rules mostly becsause Josh Magennis and Jay Dasilva were away on international duty. 10 of the academy boys got on the field including George Lapslie (photo), who scored our second 20 minutes from time.
