Happy New Year to those travelling Addicks ☔️. I at least hope that there are plenty of pubs with warm fires and the darts on the telly in the vicinity.
15 minutes before kick-off the referee called the game off. He may well have been hoping for the rain to hold off and the sun to miraculously dry the pitch in that time before kick off, but Met Office radar clearly shows that the rain was not going to subside.
It had poured down all morning and there was plenty of water lying on top of the grass according to those in the Broadfield Stadium.
If the pitch is not playable, it is not playable but why did the officials wait so long to make the decision?
As always of course it the fans, both sets, that are shafted.
Nathan Jones picked another unchanged starting XI and bench, and at least they get a few further days rest before Reading visit The Valley on Saturday.

Have to agree CA…it was clear the game was in doubt early today….its good to give grounstaff time to try and deal with a flooded pitch but the forecast was not good.
It’s time that officials need to decide a lot earlier than 2.45pm…..poor poor decision by officials and NO excuse for terrible timing.
No consideration or respect to all fans who battled their way to the game….normally a club will call in a local referee to make a speedy decision if game is off or on….Officials and EFL need to put fans first and an earlier decision will save the cost of travel to a game….Sort it EFL and match official..!!!!!!!!!
you’d struggle to find any open fires in Creepy, C.A. Some oil filled rads and a three bar heater maybe….
😁😆
Crawley strikes me as a place of flat roofed pubs selling all day breakfasts at £5.95, so good luck in finding one with a roaring log fire.
A bit silly to call the game off so late, I assume had it gone ahead it would have been a delayed kick-off and a late finish and with the weather forecast looking bleak the wisest solution would been an early decision.
But yep, some rest for the Reading match, they however played and maybe will feel the effects of a fifth match inside two weeks.
At least our players didn’t have far to get home.
I may have misplaced Crawley on the map having it more in the South Downs 😀
