Burnley 2 Charlton Athletic 2
I was a little bit annoyed about that performance, Don’t get me wrong just as Nathan was hanging off the dugout, I was hanging off the curtain pole, but I felt that they were there for taking.
Still, in isolation it was a good point especially as it came with the last kick off the game. Cracking finish from Ivan.
As expected in some quarters, Jones did go five at the back. Bell and his hamstring’s started at LWB and McNamara RWB with Billy, Jones and Ramsey the back three. No Edwards or JRC on the bench but the Scot did travel, so assumed rested.
Backed by over 1,000 travelling Addicks we started pretty well.
Their ‘keeper looked an accident waiting to happen and Leaburn especially was on top him a couple of times. TC looked lively but I just wished he had ran at Walker more often.
The opposition showed in patches their Premier League quality, although not at the back and just as I was thinking I’d wish we could show more ambition when we got the ball into their half, they scored.
Bruun Larson making the most of a retreating defence. Okonkwo might have done better also.
Almost instantly we nearly equalized. Koumetio from a corner getting enough on the ball to beat their keeper, but it was cleared off the line. Then Grant had a chance but looked holy unprepared to act from a Leaburn flick.
2nd half we also began well. Leaburn, who toiled all night had a wonderful chance to head home but instead he put a TC cross well over.
Next attack we won a corner and from that their ‘keeper and fellow defenders look panicked and the ball fell to Ramsey, who hooked home. Nothing better than seeing that cheesy smile on Kayne’s face.
However 4 minutes later we were back behind. Again architect’s of our own demise. As we broke on the attack the ball was given away, I think by Skipp. Then as our defence backpedalled Ramazani finished past Akonkwo.
I thought that would be it, but Burnley looked a team unlikely to be able to shut up shop.
It was almost 20 minutes before Jones acted, but when he did it was an attacking move. Leaburn, McNamara, Bell and the poor Skipp were off and Mesik, Mbick, Knibbs and Kelman were on.
But the clocked ticked down and we lacked any real cutting edge going forward. We just weren’t getting the ball into our forward players.
For the most of the six minutes of injury time Burnley had the ball near our penalty area, but from absolutely nowhere we burst forward, one of their defender’s inexplicably softly back headed into the path of Knibbs, who fed a killer pass into the onrushing Mesik.
The Slovakian took control of the pass and hammered it with his left foot past their ‘keeper. It was easy to blame him as he was useless, but I’m not sure Bob Bolder would’ve saved it.
So, a great point and a deserved one too, but I was annoyed that we didn’t show more ambition because Burnley showed a weak under belly and their fanbase, out-sung by our lot, felt very nervy.
A great time to score though and we should use that as momentum.

A short trip for my son and I , agreed CA Burnley were there for the taking especially with there goalkeeper who never looked happy all night, I don’t know about anyone else skipp needs to be dropped, if we had a more attacking midfield we would of come away with all 3 points, great to score at the death another point on the board coyr
Perfectly summarised
Praying for the swift and sustained return of Chalobah then I think we’ll see that ambition
Yeah, how long out and this continued insistence on signing injury-prone players foing to be ongoing, and let’s face it if fir he or they would simply be not at CAFC if fit!!
Just saying!!!
Hope so, Steve.
Both conceded goals were similar – defenders backing off and allowing shots to be got away, Okonkwo could have have done better as well.
We were too defensive for too long, maybe playing against an ex-prem side or just the set up but we showed them a bit too much respect and then we went a goal down and started to play and suddenly looked like we could win. A header off the line, Grant shot at the keeper when a yard either side and it was a goal etc.
We then needed a last seconds equaliser to get a point – overall a draw was probably right, but I think a more adventurous attitude could have seen us with all three. A great finish by Ivan Mesik though – he has impressed me with his attitude since he joined.
On to Watford who got hammered last night…I hope we can release the brakes a little – maybe start Knibbs in midfield?
Knibbs playing ahead of Coventry. Three at the back with Koumetio having freedom to come out. Would that work?
The reality is, Burnley were awful and we matched them. The late goal may have lifted the utter despondancy around that performance. But it doesn’t cover up the lack of footballing competence being produced week in, week out.
Eight games without a win …
I have to agree C.A, elation and relief at the last minute goal but more was on offer. I love Campbell but he does need to love himself a little, I feel he was beaten by the reputation of Walker . I will never like Skipp and Coventry in the same team, one of them is definitely enough and hard to offer more up front with two midfield defenders!
I am a little disappointed with Grant, who has shown glimpses but I feel there should be more consistency for longer periods (not always switched on, as was shown with Leaburn flick). He is definitely good enough, he just may need to know his place is not guaranteed As before, bar our keeper (same comment as Grant), I wouldn’t swap our defender for any other team, we just need to find a solution for more attacking threat, we have Mbick , Kelman, Knibbs and Carey who could all be part of the solution in time.
If somebody offered Daggs a bag of cash, I suspect he would count it before taking it!!This squad is the best we have had since the Premiership days, we have real competition for places and with one or two additions can be a mid to top half team.

You may not have noticed by I guess Chicago has. I’ve reduced my frequency of posting on here.
I refuse to join the happy clappy, everything is fine brigade. I continue to hold my opinions about the team and the manager. The football is unertertaining and dire.
Being dissatisfied with the direction of the club and expressing that opinion generally leads to attacks or criticism from others.
It grinds me down sometimes. But I will not change my opinion to ‘fit in’.
Feel free to hurl insults or tell me ‘to do one’ (I cleaned that up)
Well said, Daggs and people do not like the truth., and in the real world also.
Keep posting, Daggs.
Grant was poor last night.
Mwamba for Grant and Mesik for Bell on Saturday and let’s press from the start and with a little luck 3 points.
Or we could stumble around at their level and nick a draw at best.
We love to gift points to teams who are struggling, but just perhaps for once that might change???
I’d be up for giving Mwamba a start.
At times we were unwatchably awful. We just can’t keep the ball, have one predictable outlet and a striker that doesn’t score. It is easy to play against us.
Would love to see the likes of Knibbs & Carey given more of a go, not sure on Grant at all and why are our set pieces so bad?
I veer between the view that it’s our second season with a small budget aim to consolidate and utter frustration that what seem basics just aren’t done each game.
Once again I will take a point on the road. Agree that Skipp and Coventry don’t work together. Skipp is getting a starting berth on past reputation. I’ve banged on previously abaout giving Knibbs a run in the side, and his last two performances off the bench shows that he can see a telling pass. Give him a couple of starts, as he hasn’t had a fair crack of the whip since he signed. Also (this will upset people) Leaburn, for all his chasing and closing down doesn’t score goals at this level, and must be replaced in the starting eleven.
Oh well what a game….we never know when we are beaten and credit to
to the squad who never gave up.
We rode our luck at times and a point is valuable…but we need to remember
that Burnley are at the bottom and we should have got 3 points.
Anyone translate please?
First of all Daggs well said sometimes I agree with you sometimes I don’t its your opinion this isn’t a site to keep slagging Daggs off or anybody else i m afraid we are all in this together and like I said on here last year there are a lot bigger things to worry about if you want to say it Daggs you say it or anyone else but just play nice as I m sure CA didnt set this site up for this behavior right CA rant over.
Game analysis Leaburn too busy defending skipp not at this level my favourite player Campbell finally looking tired defenders did their job mesik was class kelman and knibbs were not on long enough to make a difference.
On to watford next lets get behind the team on Saturday COYR
we were very lucky . We were slow in going forward. They said on the TV we had more of the ball YES going back and to the side. Leaburn is good in the first 10/15 min then the other side work him out , and we keep on putting high balls which he most of the time does not get or goes to the other time. Our passing well least said.
Roger A
Hows that johnwest slip of the finger
Daggs , I agree it’s all not happy clappy last night we got out of jail because Burnley are poor, our football is boring and pedestrian midfield a big problem skipp definitely not the answer but has you said previously NJ is to stubborn and won’t change it coyr
A great point to secure after Burnley’s cracking away win at Watford, but we just aren’t good enough at the moment to win such games, as our recent record shows. If Chaloba had been got enough to start, we would have won. He makes a big difference when he plays. Could he start on Saturday?
Who knows, Brian. Apparently he was taken off against Preston as a precaution. That was 6 weeks ago….
I can’t understand why the club seems to keep supporters in the dark over injuries. Surely we are entitled to know the extent of any injuries players pick up, and a rough guess of how long they will be sidelined for. In Chalobah’s case the silence is deafening.
WHY OH WHY DOES JONES KEEP PLAYING LEABURN GAME AFTER GAME WHEN KELMAN IS CHOMPING AT THE BIT ON THE BENCH AGAIN ….LEABURN NEEDS SOME TIME OUT HE’S HAS THE NO GOALS TAG HANGING OVER HIM WHICH IS QUITE CLEARLY WHY HIS CONFIDENCE IS AT AN ALL TIME LOW….A FEW GAMES OUT THEN USED AS A SUB TO SEE A GAME OUT WOULD BE THE IDEAL SOLUTION NOT ROCKET SCIENCE!!…..MY PATIENCE WITH NATHAN JONES IS WEARING THIN CONSTANTLY PLAYING THE SAME DEFENSIVE WAY I WAS HOPING FOR A CHANGE IN HIS STYLE OF PLAY BUT SEEMS TO BE A REPEAT OF LAST SEASON!!DREADING THE REST OF THE SEASON IF WE KEEP TO THIS JONES BORING STYLE OF PLAY ….NOT A HAPPY CLAPPY CHAPPIE FAR FROM IT DAGGS!!
SATURDAY WATFORD AWAY CONCEDED 9 IN THERE LAST 2 GAMES .CAN OUR FORWARDS ACTUALLY SCORE WHOEVER IT IS PLAYING UPTOP.
WITH NATHAN JONES STYLE OF PLAY WHO KNOWS!!….ALL I CAN SAY THINGS NEED TO CHANGE UP TOP!!
To quote the co-commentator on Sky last night, Leaburn ‘looks like a player who hasn’t scored this season’. He should have buried that header from the TC cross. I understand Leaburn starting, and putting himself about, but I did feel like he never really got the better of the Burnley defence last night. Whereas Kelman was on the back of the last defender and looking to make runs in and behind as soon as he got on the pitch. He definitely deserves a start, along with Knibbs.
In the midfield, it has to be Skipp or Coventry. Both in the same side is not working, and I would say that both are not really staking a claim on it. Skipp seems to get caught in possession too often, and Cov keeps giving silly fouls away, such as then penalty on Saturday.
Whatever happens, once the January transfer window opens, we need to get that ball-playing midfielder that we all knew we needed, through the door. I wonder if Holsgrove is still a potential solution?
Holsgrove has played 5 games for Estoril in Liga Portugal. They are bottom though with just 2 points.
Folk are posting on here, giving their opinions on various players. I’m O/K with that. But it goes deeper than individuals not achieving the necessary standard.
The whole team seems to be trained into negativity. Only stepping up when they have conceded. Should they score an equaliser, they all drop back into negativity.
This must be coached into them surely?
P.S. thanks everyone. I was fully expecting a pile-on after my earlier post 🙂
☺️.
But if you watch Jones’ post match he says he trains them differently….
