A fortunate point, a lucky point, a good point.
Whatever way you want to frame last night’s result, it is another point on the board against a good team.
QPR are looking impressive thus far and after 12 seasons in this division, they might finally get themselves to the next level under Julien Stéphan.
This was more of a display out of last season’s playbook. It was all about keeping it organized at the back, win the clean sheet and hope we got a lucky break up top.
We were pretty punchless up top, we were unlucky with TC’s disallowed goal. VAR may have given it by an elbow. There was a late penalty shout, but it was vital to get back to core principles after Saturday and you know who would have been clapping that performance? Curbs.
QPR were good, possibly a bit over tippy-tappy but Okonkwo had to make a great save and Mesik, Jones and Bell were probably our best players although we saw a lot better of Shipp.
Leaburn ploughed a lonely furrow and we have to get more players in and around him. Carey is just not doing that, and TC was our best outlet.
We need some players back, even a couple on the bench for Saturday would be helpful, because I didn’t see a team evolving last night, but I will take the point.
🎙️ “The arrogance of the linesman, he’s mental. Because he’s looking at me as if I’ve just volleyed his cat.”

⏭️ Pompey visit on Saturday

I’ve got to say I was disappointed with us last night. Not a shot on target and reverting once again to hoofball. I havn’t seen the numbers on percentage of posession, but I wouldn’t mind betting the figures were something around 30%-70%.
Our defence looked decent for most of the game, with Jones outstanding again, but why can’t we get the ball down and play. The amount of times we gave posession away was woeful.Their keeper was playing like a sweeper most of the evening.
I understand we have injuries, I understand that it was a better showing than Saturday, and I understand that QPR have been a Championship side for a long time, but to be fair, their finishing was no better than ours. They were there for the taking. But if we are to stay in this division, we must be better at home.
I pretty much agree with all you have said, CA. However, I would also add that, to my great disappointment, Bindon became more and more of a liability as the game went on.
I thought that the small crowd clearly showed their feelings about our defensive tactics, and I hope that NJ was listening to them. We don’t want a repeat of last season’s approach: we want to be well clear of possible relegation and, to achieve that, we must follow through on a more attacking strategy.
With the failure of both us and our opponents to score, WBA went to the top of the table., which only underlines how good the point was that we won there. May there be many more to come.
I think the highlight of the evening has to be Jones’ post match interview and the point of course. A well organised back to basics performance that hopefully banished the horror show against Stoke
With so many players injured plus Danny McNamara suspended I understood the caution. We have another game on Saturday and we were set up to play for a point or grab a goal on the break not a strategy I like to see in home matches but needs must. Three defeats in a week can derail a campaign very quickly.
Defensively we looked solid again but QPR will be ruing the quality of their final ball – we got away with a couple of chances.
Was TC’s goal offside – hmm that decision is so marginal that it changes from whatever position you are in. We don’t have VAR in the Championship so we have to suck these calls up and hope that they balance out at the end of the season.
For Saturday McNamara will return and we are closer to some of the other long-term injured being seen in action.
Happy with result, not happy about disallowed goal. Happy with NJ press comments at end.
QPR are surprisingly good and held possession well but we had a few good periods. Grant fouled at end when clear through was baffling, thought the ref and linos had a very poor game.
We have an early season injury crisis and stoke aside haven’t collapsed . Im all for NJ setting up the way we did.skipp had a decent showing and his pass for disallowed goal was class, but thats what we are missing from the window…..a decent mid who can thread one through the eye of a needle. Hopefully we got cash in the bank for Jan. Another point closer to safety
Got a feeling about Saturday and we owe Portsmouth a hiding
That was another difficult watch.
Totally out played for most of the match and yes…fortunate to get a point.
I watched Q P R a couple of weeks ago against Cardiff when they created so many chances they could have scored 10. Last night, despite their control of the game they created very few chances which does mean our defence deserves credit.
Again, Lloyd Jones was terrific but I should like to mention Karlan Grant who I thought absolutely ran his socks off for the cause. He must have been totally knackered at the end and he is proving to be a good signing.
Regarding the offside goal although it looked onside from various angles the side on freeze frame did show TC to be fractionally offside….maybe by about 9 inches.
We should be able to have more of the ball against Portsmouth on Saturday… and maybe 3 points !!!
To be honest, I just sat there and wondered where our mid field had gone first half. QPR must be very disappointed with the result.
I didn’t think QPR were that good. They over played and I didn’t feel they would score. I understand what NJ was trying to do but because when we did intercept I felt they quite often had completely lost shape. Unfortunately when we did turn it around we used the ball poorly or a pass found the back of someone’s heals. The best piece of skill all night was Skipp’s through ball, the chance I felt was coming. We didn’t press because the plan was to let them have the ball and make their mistakes. QPR could well get thrashed against West Ham or Wolves. They’ll concede more the us this year.
Sorry that’s a bit of a mess. My point is QPR over played and because of this often get out of position. We let them have the ball and didn’t even bother to press. Our plan was to counter when they were out of shape. When it did eventually work the lines man cost us a goal. Jones set up to play this way and it worked which is why he’s so upset. However we could have been better with the ball.
It was an extremely hard watch, I was just glad we didn’t lose. Can’t say I was overly impressed with QPR, like others have said they totally over passed the ball almost to a point where it became boring. Admittedly we defended extremely well and I wished we had got at them more as defensively I don’t think they looked that good. Hoping for a different type of game Saturday.
That was a hard watch first of all why does Carey keep passing back like all the time first 3months of last season was my favourite player he has completely lost it Jones, Grant snd Campbell were our best players by a country mile second thing less not forget we have played west brom, west ham and Qpr they are first, second and fourth so lets give us a pat on our backs as we look towards Saturdays game onwards and upwards…COYR
Another result distorted by inadequate officials.
Offside debatable?
The pull back on Grant late on was the ref choosing the rules as he went along. No guarantee we’d have scored of course but we were robbed of the chance and the QPR culprit got away scot free with a professional foul.
We’re fifth having played 3 of the 4 above us, which is cause for optimism.
McNamara’s return means we can return to a stronger back 4 against pompey. Carey failed Wednesday’s audition for a starting berth with his underpowered and error strewn display but his replacement isn’t obvious, especially with Miles Leaburn’s unavailability. Who’d be a manager?
