Junior Nkeng signs from AFC Wimbledon

Welcome to the young man, but clearly this was a change of direction by the club after walking away from the signing Jes Rak-Sakyi.
You’d have thought if this was in the works for a while, Wimbledon would have insisted on a deal also involving Dan Kanu.
I’m sure Nkeng was on our radar, and we’ve moved to prevent him going elsewhere but no way is he a replacement for JRS, plus he plays on the left-side.
I would think he is more a long-term replacement for TC which is excellent scouting and planning, but not ready to compete or play in The Championship tomorrow.
Nkeng is just 19 was born in Barcelona and and had spells at Brentford and Tottenham Hotspur before joining the Dons’ academy in 2021.
He played 30 times for Johnnie Jackson last season and has featured in the early season games, but with transfer gossip surrounding him he was only a sub in their game on Saturday.
Jacko said post-game: “Hopefully he is with us, but the performances that he has been putting in are obviously going to catch people’s attention. With 48 hours to go, I don’t know what is going to happen. So selfishly, I hope he is here.”
A little disappointing following all of the JRS excitement, but I am certainly okay that the club keeps the money in the bank until January if the right RW is not out there.
I expect that Rob Apter now stays.
What must JRS think? I’m sure he wanted to sign but a younger winger has joined. Good for the future but, at present, JRS would have been ideal. Works hard for the team, goal scorer, plenty of assists and a good professional, unbelievable decision by Charlton
Don’t think you are taking into account the medical issue and the fact he was left in the middle of disagreement over how the deal should be structured by his old agent and his family.
This is an interesting one.. is he any better than what we have now with Fullah going out on loan?
He’s not a replacement RW, has more league 1 experience than Fullah and Kanu, but is he going to be in the matchday squad? From what I understand he was well thought of at Wimbledon, so have we jumped in knowing he is a sensible long term prospect? I still think we need another RW established player. I really hope Apter can step up, perhaps a run of games will assist him. Perhaps there are few twists in the JRS move ? But not Millwall !
