Seven and half weeks after the last ball was kicked the Addicks returned to Sparrows Lane today to begin pre-season training.

All the chaps were there, suntanned and in a frivolous mood. Bit like the first day back at school, but better paid.

It must’ve been a long line as they queued up to get weighed. One assumes that is the first thing they make you do.

Ahadme, Alex Mitchell, Tanto, Kanu, Gillesphey, Asiimwe, Apter were all present and correct. Even Lloyd Jones, subject to bids from West Ham and Watford, at least according to Twitter/ X nihilists with a combined following of less than my age.

It was great to see Josh Edwards’ big smile on video, I’m looking forward to seeing him in pre-season.

In one video I saw, it looked like Miles Leaburn had brought his son to work, but on a closer inspection it was Kaheim Dixon!

With the fixtures coming out tomorrow we still await our first signing, heck even a first rumour would be nice. Rich Cawley poured cold water over the message board rumour of Sambou Soumano today to even snuff that tea-light out.

The 25-year old Senegalese striker plays in Ligue 1 for Lorient, not to be confused with L Orient.

Otherwise it is tumbleweed despite the Charlton Life rumours page having close to half a million views.

It is still early and by this time a year ago we had only signed Sonny Carey, but there were at least rumours. Nathan Jones is notorious for doing his business quietly and if that is for players overseas then there will be even less leaks.

Of course it could be due to the World Cup, Phil Chapple is probably out there now 😊.
