Coventry called up

Good to see Addicks’ Conor Coventry be selected for the upcoming Republic of Ireland friendly.

Heimir Hallgrimsson added seven players included for the first time for this month’s friendly against Grenada.

Hallgrimsson’s 21-man squad is mainly made up of players who ply their trade in the Championship or League One.

Those involved in the EFL play-offs or based in the Premier League, Scottish Premiership, League of Ireland or other major leagues will be available for the games against Qatar and Canada later in the month.

For some reason the game against Grenada is being played in Murcia, Spain. The Qatar game is in Dublin and the Canada game is in Montreal. The last two nations are using Ireland as World Cup warm up games.

I hope Conor gets some time for his country, for whom he qualifies through his Mum and actually holds the record for their most capped player at U21 level making 28 appearances.

Today also saw announced that the club has a new board member. Richard Law joins as a Non-Executive Director.

Non-Executive means Law is joining to bring advice and knowledge. No investment or operational day to day involvement.

He has an interesting background, which is why I suspect Gavin Carter has introduced him. Law had 12 years at Arsenal where he oversaw the club’s scouting in the Americas and player operations from the academy through to the first team.

An internet search will actually have his Arsenal job title as ‘chief transfer negotiator.’

Dick Law as he is known is an American and is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese. Start the transfer rumours!

Currently Law is a Director of STATSports, the world’s leading provider of GPS trackers for sport. All the pros wear those vest monitors.

They are an Irish based company which brings this post full circle 🇮🇪.
