Injuries mount
Nathan Jones does like to run with a smaller squad, a unified group where every player feels part of it, and believe they will have their chance. This season he’s running with 25 players.
As of today we have Godden, Burke, Bell and Edwards at various stages of recovery. Ramsey and Lloyd Jones have had an illness, likely the same and had to isolate before playing under the weather on Saturday.
Charlie Kelman has a hamstring issue and has missed the last two games, and then James Bree is carrying a groin injury, probably sustained on Tuesday, which makes me question why he started and played the whole game yesterday.
The manager also made a comment post game that Leaburn was also injured. He was named on the bench and Addicks were at pains to understand why he wasn’t called upon when the game was calling out for him.
However, apparently Miles did not even want to sit on the bench and was actually switched out late for Josh Laqeretabua.
The odd rant aside, Jones is usually very deliberate about what he says after games, and after talking up the bravery Lloyd and Kayne, he didn’t appear so enamoured by Miles, but I am probably reading too much into it, as Nathan rarely gives you much of a paper trail to follow on stories, particularly injuries.
It was however square pegs in round holes on Saturday and we are running on fumes, and for a team that plays an intense, high energy game, carrying passengers is not an option
This two week break has come at an opportune time. Time heals a lot of things, please let it be Godden’s knee tissue! It will certainly be a real fillip if one of those longer term injured players is ready to play some part in the Southampton game.
Of course we won’t find out and will have to wait until the teamsheet, and remember that Bree won’t feature against the Saints anyway.

Looking at Leaburn’s body language over the season. Well I’m no expert, but I have a feeling he’ll be off in January.
Totally agree Daggs….he seems very frustrated, maybe lack of first team starts ? It would not surprising that January sees him moving on….Real.pity if it happens.
On a positive note Charlton women got a great 2-1 win over Southampton yesterday…another great performance 👏
Charlton women now top.of the WSL and next Sunday we play Bristol City at home who are currently second….Karen Hills and coaching staff and players are to be applauded
So great we are top…but I noted only 600 showed up for the game at the Valley.. There must be a tremendous financial loss for the club….or am I missing something?
Yes I agree attendance needs to improve and that won’t happen until your promoted into the top WSL league where attendances are better.
Womens football has advanced dramatically and Charlton are building a team that hopefully will get promotion.
If you get the opportunity to visit The Valley and watch a game I’m confident you’ll not be disappointed and entry price is very good.
I don’t think so, but The Valley is there to be used. We already pay rent on that, so why pay rent to a VCD Athletic.
We are the 2nd worst supported club in the league sadly.

I personally think that miles won’t be going anywhere in January he has only scored 1 this season and still have over 2yrs left on his contract besides which he seems to play about 10 games and get injured although I do have alot of respect for the leaburn family so hopefully won’t be leaving anytime soon
I think the new contract protected both parties but Miles hasn’t played more than half a season in his professional career. Hopefully this injury is not serious, if it is he won’t be going anywhere anyhow.
I’m gonna be radical here, so am prepared for some flack. Two International breaks in five weekends…..yes, it gives players a rest (only those who are not involved of course), and as said above, this one has probably come at a good time for us injury wise. But,whatever happened to the seasons, long ago, when every Saturday afternoon was sacrosanct to league football in England and Scotland. I am of the opinion that we now pander too much to International football, even though friendly and qualification games are getting lower attendances than ever, unless it is the final stages of a competition. The days of working for five days, looking forward to watching your favourite team on a Saturday afternoon, now has a gap of fourteen days, five or six times a season. FIFA unfortunately, keep adding International competitions which will keep pushing domestic football, and the humble supporter, further down in importance. Anyway, rant over,so off I go to find something to do for the next twelve days !!!!!
I agree fully with you Greg, so much so that I now watch amateur football when International breaks come along.I have a local team very close to where I live and most games are exciting skillfull and above all entertaining
It’s £8 entry with a free programme, and refreshments are cheap far away from the costly amount watching league games.
It’s worse than that Greg. Not just internationals affecting our fixtures. Sky have all but destroyed the tradition of Saturday @ 3PM games.
That wouldn’t be so bad if they paid decent money to the football League. But in reality, they only care about the Premier League.
Radical?! That is just common sense. What not revert back to midweek internationals? Oh we can’t because of the bloated Euro club competitions.
The third international 2-week break in 3 months.
I also think clubs outside the Prem should be told just to get on with it. It’s a squad game after all.
And Daggs is right, I think the TV companies have destroyed the Sat 3pm, Tues 7.45 tradition. No thought whatsoever to the football fan, especially the away traveller.
Agreed CA…….Oh,and while we are at it, don’t get me started about the UEFA Conference League on a Thursday…..what the hell is that all about !!!!!
Madness!!!
