It’s a squad game

Nathan Jones is a man rarely known to tinker, whether that has been to the detriment or not, but I will stand next to him by his record.

We have another two tough away journey’s this week making it four away games in five. Trips to Suffolk and Humberside await making it hard to spend too much time on the training pitch.

Jones should have mixed up the eleven last time we did this – on the road at Derby and Preston, and we rued it. It appears this time he will utilize the squad and make changes to the starting line-ups.

So, who will we see a bit more of this week?

I have a sneaking suspicion Jones might call on Onel Hernandez on Tuesday, probably from the bench. Onel was loved in Norfolk, where he spent 7 years. I do fnd it hard to think that Amari’i Bell can play three in a week.

Playing Ramsey on the left at Preston didn’t give us the desired result, but I suspect he will replace Reece Burke on Tuesday on the right side of the three. I also wouldn’t be surprised to see Rob Apter, more likely at Hull.

Harvey Knibbs will be knocking on the door, but he doesn’t start over the ginger genius at the moment.

Then we come to the much debated front two. I get why TC starts and although we lost momentum after he was taken off on Saturday he was blowing and frankly probably jet-lagged.

Jones talks all of the time about it being a squad game, and that is something he has the players’ trust in. Yet, that only resonates if they truly feel part of something, and that helps by pulling your boots on.

Tanto starts tomorrow night for me, alongside Kelman. I am intrigued to see how Kelman plays alongside a battering ram spawning flicks and tap ons.

Miles Leaburn will get his chance too, and a fully re-charged TC can bounce off the bench if necessary or be nicely coiled for Saturday.

Both Ipswich and Hull are scoring regularly. I think we will probably conceed in both games, so we need our forward paring, whoever Jones selects, to step up to the plate, and back up our midfield and wing backs in the ‘goals’ department.

Agreed John…….I have my fingers crossed that if Kelman gets one, it will open the sluice gate !!!……I am of the opinion that he needs a Tanto or Leaburn to feed off.

Yes, Jones has stated he will not be playing the same eleven this week, but who knows, and all games are very hard, and yes, this scoring from our so-called goalscorers is now getting very serious indeed, and yes, there is the saying who cares who scores the goals as long as we are getting points.
Tanto, and what has he got to do to start a game, and also Aptley has not come on for a single minute, and yes, the call to have him on the bench against Sheff Utd was the correct one, but like last Saturday, the same players were brought on and in fact we were backfooted and surely Apter would have got us up the pitch and IMHO there must be more than meets the eye off the pitch with stubborn Jones?
However, we have to credit Wednesday and they played well and other times could well have drawn or even worse lose,
Bree, obviously, cannot be dropped and also strange that Carey came off, unless Jones was thinking 3 matches in a week and the next two, as always, going to be very difficult games and 4 away games out of 5 and yes other clubs Home, Home and one away, and vice versa, absolutely ridiculous.
Tanto please must start, but we thought that he somehow survived that huge assault on him, and wow, what was the ref thinking and to think the Authorities deemed it to be non-violent and the GK got only a one-match ban.

Tactically both oppositions will be difficult…Jones and Flemming no doubt will have watched recent games and hopefully sort out a team to deal with threats…I’m off to watch the U21 against Watford at The Valley and then watch the Ipswich game.
