One more signing

“What we probably want to do is add, at least one body. We know the position we need it. Maybe to do that, we want to make sure our numbers are good.” – Nathan Jones today.

A right wing back I reckon, possibly waiting to pounce with a low-ball offer for Japanese player Shinnosuke Fukuda, who halfway through their season his club Kyoto are demanding a large fee even though his contract expires in January.

Waiting until January is an option too, but will draw in competition. Meanwhile the scent to signing previous trialist Dexter Lembikisa has gone cold.

We know Jones doesn’t like loan’s and while I expect there’s still plenty of loan deals to be had, many Premier League possibilities have been assigned. All but a handful of Championship clubs have already hit up the loan market.

Rich Cawley did a great wide ranging interview with Jones today (behind a paywall) where he commented on Kayne Ramsey and that the club and Ramsey’s people are already discussing a contract extension – “the sky is the limit for him if he continues his dedication, his application and how he wants to learn.”

Jones also talked enthusiastically about Macaulay Gillesphey – “we see Macca being here for a long time, we love him.”

PFA team selection Lloyd Jones and Zach Mitchell too, who by the sounds of it will form part of the first team squad – “Zach is one of those players that will impact for us if he stays.”

What also became apparent is that if Jones can keep everyone happy then he wants all three senior goalkeepers to stay – “we’ve gone up a level so everyone’s levels have had to go up – including humility and understanding. We would like three top goalkeepers that we can rely on, at any point, and that is what we have.”

Daniel Kanu too, although I reckon once Matt Godden is back and we get closer to the window he will move out on loan.

The boss did walk back what he said about Micah Mbick going on loan, sounds as if he is staying but more than likely Daniel Kanu will depart before the end of the month – “we have got a lot of interest in Dan – a lot of clubs want him.”

It feels so good that we are a week and a bit out and not scrapping around in the bottom of the barrel and anxiously waiting any news of a signing, where almost anyone will do.

However, it does look like we will see some final transfer activity next week.

One player for you CA. James Bree, who plays right wing back for Southampton. He has played under NJ at Luton and moved to Southampton to follow him. Yet to make an appearance this season for them. Played in their promotion campaign and in the PL. He would tick all of NJ’s boxes.. 😉

Can anyone explain the overseas player rules? I thought they had to be regular internationals not those looking for more experience?

Depends what club like Man City, Brum and Wrexham plus many others in the Premiership and they have their own fair play rules,
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR and do not get penalised.

I note that our former player Patrick Bauer has joined AFC Wimbledon, hope it goes well for him. I saw AFCW’s game the other night when their CF got injured, which may have led to PB being recruited by former teammate Jackson.

Kanu has gone on loan to Walsall and I would have liked to see Patrick back in a Charlton shirt even as cover for our defence

I don’t think PB is the player we remember.
It is a RWB we are after..
