Bristol City 0 Charlton Athletic 0
I really enjoyed that. Throughly deserving of a point, and perhaps could even have snatched all three as we again finished the stronger of the two sides.
Some superb individual performances all across the pitch, but it was a stoic team showing that gave the noisy travelling Addicks something to be really proud off.
Bristol City had that excellent win last week at Sheffield United and they started quickly and we had to be expeditious to conquer their early threats and extra man in midfield.
We grew into it though after about 15 minutes. We kept our shape, got on the ball and were relentless in chasing them down high up the pitch, with TC an excellent outlet.
I thought we edged the 2nd half – this was no means all men behind the ball clinging on – led by Apter, Carey and TC we moved up the pitch menacingly making good use of the pitches’ width.
Out of possession the players worked tirelessly and the back three were impenetrable again, with the much improved Docherty and Coventry the shield in front. Just one shot on goal against us, and a quick fire Mehmeti one that hit the bar.
Apter was brilliant, bum of the seat stuff when he gets on the ball. He had a shot saved by Vitek who then somehow pushed onto a post what would’ve been an own goal after a Leaburn cross was cut out heading towards TC.
The game changers all played their part. Leaburn busy, Olaofe showed well again and Knibbs nearly nicked it when Vitek had to be quick to parry his touch in front of goal in injury time.
Kelman again looked a little lost, perhaps isolated is a better word, although had his best spell just before Leaburn replaced him, but there were so many sparkling performances with Ramsay’s almost flawless.
A long way to go, but we look like we belong.
🎙️“I felt we were going to win it. I felt we were the side more likely to win it – apart from on the counter-attack, I couldn’t see them scoring or breaking us down. So it just shows we are in a good, good place. I’m really, really proud. We have come here and adapted to the Championship really, really quickly. That was an outstanding away performance.” – Nathan Jones

Great point. I thought Ramsey was outstanding! I do think he is premier league bound if he continues with his form
It is just amazing to see how well we have adapted to the challenges of the Championship and how well most of our new signings fit into our gameplan. There is, of course, a long way to go but things are definitely looking positive.
Do you know that, with the two results so far this season, we can honestly say that we haven’t lost a match in this division for over 5 years?
COYR !!!
Millwall logic?
We looked so solid at the back nothing could get past us kayne Ramsey was definitely the star man today followed by Apter he looked dangerous every time he went forward. 2 clean sheets out of 2 games let’s hope we carry this momentum on.. COYR
A terrific team performance and a deserved point. In the first 15 minutes, I feared the worst as we were under pressure but Ramsey was superb, ably supported by Jones and Bell. City’s slick movement in midfield exposed the legs of Doherty and Coventry was sitting deeper and deeper. However we adapted and grew into the game, although lacking any real conviction in supporting our attacking play. Kellman was often isolated and feeding on scraps being thrown at him. 2nd half, we were more positive and created some decent chances, 2 good saves from their keeper, although I felt he was very fortunate with his save from apter , pushing it out into the 6 yard box, and the ref protected him as well….
Carey looked good again, covering ground and maundering into the last third. He has a great understanding with apter.
Now TC.. I am not sure what to think.. 🤔 i thought he did better than last week, but still looks a bit shy in taking defenders on. He certainly linked up better and had some influence going forward. I note some online Bristol City fans really rated him.. although I think everyone at the ground felt Ramsey was MOTM. His development has been outstanding and credit to the coaching staff on assisting him on that development. How he was playing in league 2 seems absurd now. I thought Leaburn , olafe and Anderson were positive introductions, I do feel olafe has more to offer, certainly there is pace and strength. Encouraging signs, very early days and tougher periods will be encountered over the few months. Not getting carried away, just pleased that we seem to able to compete at this level. I hope it continues and is not a post playoff energy bump. I feel there is still more to come from this squad, as fitness and confidence levels grow.
Hi Red-Army. I was at the match as well and I just can’t see what all the fuss about TC is. Apter showed what a winger really looks like and TC doesn’t look like that!!! Against any decent defender he doesn’t have the pace to go past them and since he scored a couple of goals last season seems hellbent on cutting inside and trying to find a shot every time. This often means he doesn’t get the ball across or even get his head up to look. Interesting how when Olaofe came on he had far more pace going forward. Also quite often TC doesn’t want to track back and get stuck in. Not a fan at all and overrated….even by NJ. When you look at the commitment of the rest of the team he has a lot to learn. Maybe he should have a chat with Ramsey or Jones
Hi, have to agree with you based on yesterday’s game . He seems to lack the confidence at attacking defenders. I don’t mind him cutting inside as it gives opponents something to think about.. but doing it repeatedly reduces its effectiveness. I thought he played better than last Saturday. He doesn’t like to track back , given he has Bell and Edwards behind him, probably covers that. He looks tired as as well. Olafe is certainly different, pace and power. I recall him giving Ramsey a hard game, which quite a barometer level now. We should give him time to adapt to this league, perhaps when he believes he will jump up a level.
TC has been out of form so far this season { including pre season} and he is too far away from Kelman most of the time. Apter has caught the eye and with Carey they look a good combination.
I have watched Campbell since he was a U16 playing in the U18s. He mainly played as a right winger and formed a very good partnership with Asiimwe as right wing back. I think the side would be more balanced if when going on the front foot in the second half we played a front 3 with Apter and Campbell on either side of the main striker, and I would advocate Campbell and Apter should switch wings for short periods.
Any news about Josh Edwards? Read a few people saying it didn’t look good??
He looked to me as if he was on the pitch afterwards walking okay. 🤞.
That boy leaves nothing off the field for sure.
Great result and huge praise in particular to Ramsey and Apter. However, the role that Kelman is playing as an isolated striker does not suit his game, particularly at Championship level, he needs a technical player who is close to him, to hold the ball up and create openings, pity Leaburn is only able to play limited minutes as he could be the ideal answer. In the absence of Leaburn could Knibbs be the answer?
Great result with Ramsey outstanding, if he continues playing the way he currently is, as I can see it maybe hard to hold onto him in the next transfer window, with some Premiership clubs interested, which even Brown & the commentators mooted! Apter was a constant menace down the wing and it showed when they realised and had to put two players on him, which didn’t seem to deter him, but must admit was a little bit concerned that he may not be able to do his defensive duties as good as Small, considering he hadn’t really done much of that before, but that performance today showed he is more than up to it, apart from that one moment of sillyness giving away a cheap free kick in the last remaining seconds, which had us all holding our breath!
Every player including the subs put their bodies on the line and gave their utmost, though I thought Kelman looked completely lost in the first half, same as last week and just ran from player to player hardly ever touching the ball. He did a bit better in the second half before being subbed. I think a change needs to be made there, as currently Jones is playing two smallish player’s in TC & Kelman for the first period then brings them off and brings on two big players in Olafe and Leaburn, which both times, to be fair, has made a difference. The problem is Kelman needs a big man upfront to lay off balls to him, that’s his game, so maybe Olafe should start upfront with him, then bring on Leaburn & TC?
