It’s coming back home
What do you say. Give Thomas Tuchal a few more games and then hand the job to Sarina?
Whatever you say about her tactics, decision making and subs that is an unbelievable record. Congratulations to her, an honorary English woman as there’s ever been and well done the players, the first ever English football team to win a major final overseas.
I have watched a fair amount of the Women’s Euro’s and been impressed with how technical some of the teams have been, especially Spain, who were the best in the tournament to be fair.
The teams were of varying quality but it is oodles better than it was a decade ago when prior to that Germany won it every time.
The standard is remarkably improved even if players are prone to simple mistakes and the occasional wayward pass, but they make up for it by shear passion and some very good technical skills. Goalkeeping too is markedly improved.
The games were fast paced, fair, and void all of the men’s histrionics. Referee’s were pretty good too in the games I saw.
England lacked Spain’s overall ability but it is the sum of its parts and they do not know when to lie down.
Personally I felt Lucy Bronze has looked a bit past it some games, but now I read she has been playing with a fractured tibia. She was already at warrior status, amazing. Bronze and her team mates silenced the critics, which the men’s team has consistently failed to do.
Led by the composed Williamson, it was good to see Carter assured, Hampton was unwavering in goal and Lauren Hemp was our best player today. I’m not sure why Wiegman took Russo off but Chloe Kelly loves the big occasion and whilst a lot of penalties in the competition have been laughable, she absolutely buried hers. Charles’ one was good too.
Very inspiring and very enjoyable, hopefully the women’s game gets another shot in the arm, and maybe Charlton’s owners have a few bucks left to support our women’s team also. It is a big season coming up for them in the new WSL2.

I’ve watched the England games throughout the competition. Well done the Lionesses. A couple of good wins (Holland/Wales) but overall nail-biting close victories with a bit of good luck.
I just can’t understand the need for so many to constantly compare the womens game with the mens. They are different games and as you say, the women play it so much more sportingly, which is one of the attractions for me.
If I were to pick a player of the match, it would be Hannah Hampton. Following Mary Earps was going to be a big ask. Hannah took on the task admirably. She didn’t make a single mistake in the final.
Equally well done Sarina Weigman, what a record that is.
Daggs- I have come to realize and appreciate that. The two games are very different mostly due to the physical attributes. Same with women’s basketball.
Less tiki-taki, but still a lot of short passing but once in opponents half the game moves quick and players overload attacking areas. A lot more turnover of the ball too, and chance creation. I am sure there are, but you probably don’t see many 0-0’s.
There’s also far less stoppages. Less fouls, less time-wasting.
I enjoyed it. I also enjoyed the WC and the last Euro’s. I appreciate this is the tip of the iceberg of the women’s game, but I will attempt to watch more games this season.
Q – does CATV ever cover the Charlton women’s team?
Hi CA
Yes they do cover Valley games
There may be a few wayward passes and easy chances missed in the womens games, but so do many of the mens teams do the same thing. The real big issues there is hardly any of this tippy tappy with sideways and backwards passing, mostly playing in your own half which is now a blight on the mens football!
The women are now playing like the men use to trying to go forward whenever they can and score goals and lets be honest here, its a lot more entertaining! Thats why so many people, including a lot of men are now watching it, as its more exciting.
I would love Sarina to come and manage the England team, but unfortuntely the people above, wouldn’t even consider it, no matter how ever good she was, as she is a woman and they couldn’t have that!
Would you believe that the F.A.in 1921 banned all league clubs from allowing women to play in their stadiums….how far we have come !!!!
Totally agree with everything Daggs and Mike say….I watch all games at The Valley and to be honest the ladies games are totally entertaining and keep attention throughout.
Charlton ladies have a good team and we were so unlucky not to be promoted to the WSL last season.
We will see a dramatic increase in women’s football attendance and look-out men 😃
Sarina will in the future be England mens team manager
Who’s tuchal I thought big Sam was in charge of the men’s England team
