Rob Apter

I’m liking this rumour. A lot of upside if it happens. Apparently we are ‘lining up a move’ for Blackpool’s Rob Apter.

A right wing back who can play high up the pitch, skillful, tricky, assists, goals, an old fashioned winger crossed with a disciplined defensive virtue.

Just 22-years old and very well thought off by Steve Bruce who does not want to lose him. Apter is under contract until 2027.

Other clubs will no doubt be sniffing and I don’t know how hard Nathan Jones and Phil Chapple are sniffing but I am here to share valid rumours.

Those rumours started locally up on the Fylde Coast, and surfaced today. Apter had a fantastic breakout season last year after 12 goals in 37 games on loan for Tranmere the season before in L2. He was named the Sky Bet League Two Young Player of the Season by the EFL

I do remember him from last season, and he ended playing 50 games for Blackpool scoring 8 with 8 assists from all comps.

Liverpool born, he was in Tranmere’s academy before moving to Blackpool’s aged 16. He has been well nursed at Bloomfield Road and had a couple of non-league loans all the while improving and progressing.

A piece of the jigsaw for next season and the future if this one happens.

Yes he does sound promising and, surprisingly, he is not a Luton player.😊

Yes, definitely like the sound of this one if we can prise him away from Blackpool. He will cost us no doubt, but if he’s as good as they say (and his stats seem to confirm it) his value can only increase if he continues to improve in the Championship. Let’s hope he will want to move South.

I’d look at getting Albie Morgan back….I’m sure he’d be an asset to the squad.

Morgan had a great debut season but regressed under Bowyer. He had his faults but could play a killer pass, which none of last years midfielders could do. I understand he was diagnosed as a diabetic last year which may adversely effect his ability.

Yep he was diagnosed but as far as I’m aware he is managing it well….with Jones he would do well I think

He’s not a wing back at all, he’s a winger, and the club hold an option so he’s effectively under contract to 2028.

BTW Morgan has been like a new player since his diabetes diagnosis. He was inconsistent, which I’m wondering if might have been down to blood sugar levels. They managed him carefully now and he’s been a real dynamo.

My problem is we have been stuck in that horrible league 1 for so long I don’t know if the new signings are any good as I’ve not watched any other games apart from Charltons 😀

Agree plus it would appear, with some injury prone players and certain players having a very poor last season being signed, some seem no better than what we already have! Whereas Jones advised as soon as we got promotion, he was only going to sign better quality players than we already have, as he knows the squad as it is, is not good enough to survive in the Championship and he wants quality over quantity. Well currently looking at all the current signings, it looks again more like quantity over quality, same as last season, hoping that that some will really shine, like Godden and keep us up!

Indeed CA.. unfortunately the realism of what we can sign is not totally understood. Let’s give these players a chance before rubbishing them before they have played. It will take time to settle in, we saw that with the squad last season.. Lennie Lawrence was a master of getting players of similar backgrounds.. just saying to all fans of longevity..

I wasn’t rubbishing the new signings I was just thinking to myself that I’ve not watched any games in higher leagues for so long it’s quite funny that I’ve never heard of them that includes some of the England players

Red Army, similar to Danny B, I wasn’t rubbishing the players that Jones has brought, I have just high lighted players being brought in who are injury prone, which have cost Charlton previously on most occassions and certain others who have not performed well last season in the Championship and are in all esscence, really no better than what we already have! As stated by Jones himself, not me, we are only going to sign better quality players and not just go for quantity!
You really do need to read through other peoples posts properly before, snapping back at them, mostly in a derogatory manner, which you have done before, since recently coming onto this site with your own one dimensional opinions!
Similar to your comment “unfortunately the realism of what we can sign is not totally understood” Obviously you think you know what type of player we can sign and the maxium we can pay etc, I certainly don’t! Unfortunately I think it is you who doesn’t understand. It’s not rocket science, Jones, like most managers are given an overall budget, which encompasses cost of players, salaries etc. I would suspect, note “suspect”, he has been given a pot of money to keep us in the Championship by the owners for the first season. With that pot it is up to him, within reason, to decide how he uses it, on trying for more quality or more quantity, either way we all hope, they will be to the good and we don’t get relgated straight back down , like the two previous times.

As for time to settle in, you have far less time in the Championship, than the 1st or 2nd Divisions, plus you cannot survive if you can’t score goals, even if you have a great defense. That’s fact, that’s why we are one of the favourites to go straight back down again, unless we can improve our goal scoring. You only have to look at the last two times, lack of goals got us relegated, especially the last time when a certain centre forward who with his goals would have kept us up, refused to play!

As for Lennie Lawrence, you can’t compare him with Jones he was a Legend, plus unlike Jones, he hardly had any money to play with, but still managed to bring in some quality players from lower leagues, together with some good old hands who were still fit and could still play a good game. Also they played attacking and entertaining football, which the crowd loved.

      Very tetchy Mike..
I think we are in better budget position than when we were under RD. The realism Mike .. is that we are not in the market for multi million pound players like other championship teams. Also players will need convincing to play for us, as we are not a sustained championship side. Lennie Lawrence was a legend, worked miracles, got players with injury histories like Crooks as an example. He made some interesting signings like Andy Jones ..
sorry you don’t like have people challenging you on your opinions. Have a wonderful season supporting Charlton and look forward to your future contributions.

I work for Robs arl man Adrian and he told me Charlton aren’t going to bid any higher than 1.8 million it was the final offer and Blackpool want over 2 million. There are 3 apter brothers the middle aged one Matt has just left Everton academy to sign for Cardiff city and the youngest Will is only 14 who plays at Everton academy. Adrian says out of all his sons it’s young Will has the best potential from what he’s seen so far and he claims Matt is better than Rob too 😂

Perhaps we should stick the 1.8m on the 14-year old then 🤣

Well at least it throws out, yet another of, know it all new comer, Red’s Armys incorrect facts, “that the realism is that we are not in the market for multi million pound players like other championship teams” 🙂

It shows our backers are willing to splash the cash when necessary with a younger player who can only get better, which will increase his value. Let’s hope for a good start to the season and all the moaners get behind the club. I’m certainly looking forwards to it. COYR.
