Summer solstice

Summer officially arrived today although summer has been knocking around here for quite some time 🌞. The longest day means a later sunset, which will be around 8.30pm here tonight, an hour earlier than London. Although the latest sunset will follow next week.

We are at a swim meet this weekend, no surprise there and it is hot up at the Sarasota pool, but the evening sessions have been compounded by thunderstorms. We do get some monumental lighting storms here, but not very swimming friendly.

It’s been warmer in London today than in Sarasota by about 3C. Very toasty in the UK as most of you would be aware.

Our daughter has been off school since the 3rd week of May, they have about 12 weeks off for the summer. I have no idea what working parents do with their young kids for three months in the summer!

So, we are about a month in and conscious that we have hardly scratched the surface of most of the things on our summer break list.

The Sarasota Art Museum, the Classic Car Museum, PopStroke, I was top of the leader board last time we went, exploring the grounds of The Ringling, taking the dog for a walk just a few minutes drive from our house on the Legacy Trail, renting a boat again, St. Armands Circle to see how its ongoing storm recovery is going and the weekly Farmers Market are just some of the places we were going to get out to, and none very far away.

A little bit further afield is Anna Maria Island, a seven-mile-long barrier island about 25 miles from our house that is brimming with history, arts and stuff which the over-promise-other-half keeps promising to whisk me away to as we’ve never been.

One of the reasons why we love living here is that there’s always something to do, the climate helps in that regard, and work does get a little quieter in July so we just need to get out and do some of it.

Anyway, is that the time? It’s back to the pool.
