Charlton Athletic 0 Mansfield Town 0
I was sat ready with iPad open at 10am (3pm UK time) when there was a knock at the door, and unexpected visitors showed up.
My understanding-other-half looked at me and said she’d deal with them and I could go into another room and watch the game but to her surprise I shut my screen and joined them for coffee instead.
I think sums up my attitude at the moment, and I admire those that showed up in SE7, despite how sad it was to see the Covered End look so empty.
I can’t comment much on the first half other to say it sounded terrible apart from Anderson raising the heart rate only to get his legs in a tangle.
I watched the second half and there was evidence at least of the players trying to play the ball through the third’s on the ground. Leaburn should have scored for me, but he looked sharper than in recent games.
Mansfield had some some chances though but Lloyd Jones definitely brings more harmony to Mitchell and Gillesphey and solidity at the back, but it’s the broken record of chance creation, goal scoring and any real kind of composure when we do make it into an opponent’s third.
The referee did his best to ruin the game as a spectacle. Hah spectacle, what am I talking about..
This recent run of league games that started with a dodgy win at Burton has now seen us score just once, and that Burton win is our only one in nine.
Oh well, Christmas is coming.
🎙️”Us and Birmingham are the best two pressers in the league so we are front-footed and going after teams. We’re just not taking chances at the minute. I’m sure that will change. We’re not capitalising on the clean sheets at the minute.” – Nathan Jones

It’s dire . As I have stated on numerous occasions mid table finish if we are lucky . I used to fly on a regular basis into London city airport to meet all my Addicks friends for a pint . No more . I enjoy reading your posts CA . I am in the UK for Christmas but I live on the South coast so it’s a fair journey for me . I stated it’s going to be a drab 0-0 I rather spend the time with my family . Didn’t like to be proven right. Jones really has no idea and keeps up the usual BS . I know CAFC inside out . I can’t say to much because I signed a NDA , I did try my best . Have a great Christmas with your family & friends.
If Jones remains as manager, league two beckons.
Been a life long Charlton fan IAM now 66, I don’t normally comment but IAM sick of Jones harping on about clean sheets for Christ sake play some football and go and win the bloody games, no further forward than four years ago
A draw was predictable and after a brief chat with Nigel Clough who said a draw would suit us both at present….and right he was.
I felt the approach to the game was more positive and Coventry and Small had impact throughout the game.
The second half changed saw us more on the attacking front but again we struggle to finish.
We’re going to have to dip in the market in Jan. A creative midfielder and a goal scorer. Hard to find and not cheap, but they’re the difference between mid table obscurity and pushing for promotion.
We did have a top goal scorer but unfortunately Jones and Co thought he was too small and not quite good enough so replaced him with a Lanky Tall Guy who is probably the worse number 9 we have ever had!
As for Jone’s comment “Us and Birmingham are the best two pressers in the league so we are front-footed and going after teams” I don’t know what he is watching it’s definately not Charlton? As mostly we have been in our own half scrapping around trying to defend, whilst the oppostion are pressing us and when able just hoofing it upfield hoping someone will get on the end of it! Apart from certian games where we do get it together and don’t bypass the midfield, we have mostly struggled to have an effort on target, that the goalie has actually had to make a save!
He keeps saying we are nearly there etc, nearly there, in my many years of watching Charlton, I have to say these are some of the worst performances ever with entertainment value almost at zero and currently we are one of the worst teams in this divison.
NJ is totally deluded. I feel he remains as manager for no reason other than the cost of outing him. If he had an ounce of decency he would resign with a partial pay-off.
I’ve just given up it’s so sad to watch this club in total decline
