Burton Albion 0 Charlton Athletic 1
This wasn’t as much as a must win, it was a had to win, and win we did.
End of match report….😎
It was another dreadful game to watch, we did dominate but left it very late to get the winner against a by then 10-man Burton, who were really poor.
We did create a lot of chances, or half-chances but our quality and execution of that final ball was once again naff.
We lacked width but Jones did go with three strikers and started Berry. I thought Anderson had another rough game, and it’s hard to understand why he still starts.
Taylor made a difference when he came on and looked up for it against his old team. It was his clash that resulted in Webster getting sent off on 68 minutes.
Our goal came with 8 minutes of normal time remaining. Small burst into the box and had a shot saved, it fell to Coventry and their ‘keeper saved that as well, but third time of asking Coventry found the net.
For those that question togetherness, the goal was celebrated wildly.
After the goal however we spent a fair few minutes panicking, but Hylton to his credit came on and was a noticeable calming influence.
There’s a video doing the rounds of Jones celebrating like he’d just won an Olympic gold medal before climbing into the travelling few hundred Addicks to join the merriment.
He is a worry, in more ways than one. Let’s 🙏 this is a turning point.
🎙️”I’m really happy. I asked them just to win the game tonight. I didn’t mind too much about performance”
⭐️ Conor Coventry

it’s pathetic. I have reported my comments on BBC sport . This is not a match we should be celebrating 3 points . Burton bless them bottom of the league , down to 10 men and we get a 1 nil victory. We are in Div 3 . We will finish mid table . We played in front of 1800 supporters tonight do I need to elaborate. Play offs no chance
I noticed the crowd. Blimey. This is where we are at.
We struggled to beat a 10 man team bottom of the league. Thats it!
At this time every year my cardiologist tells me to cut down on the Charlton Athletic and find a nice Premier League club to support.
Last year it was Liverpool. This year it’s “anyone but Man City”.
Poor game, poor performance from a poor bunch of players but a win nevertheless so cmon CA woe betide a manager who shows some genuine passion and commitment which, I don’t think you can argue, rubs off on the team – their only redeeming feature. He also clearly knew what not winning would’ve meant. Rather that than the Appleton stupor.
He’s different for sure but I think we should give him a break, judge him when not crippled by injuries to key (our best) players and please over a season, a whole season, novel approach I know.
Have a read of the Messiah’s comments on the official site. He’s deluded. Another inept, muddled, confused, incompetent performance. This time against the bottom team in the division who went down to 10 men and NJ thinks it was great and everything went to plan.
This win, as welcome as it was, cannot ‘paper over the cracks’
A fresh start is needed. A new manager needs to be in place by December, just to secure safety this season, because talk of play-offs is ‘pie in the sky’
Embarrassing to celebrate that win….we were woeful and so much for promotion push…wow how far we have fallen this season…under 2000 there.
Curtis needs to take Nathan into a dark-room and tell him the reality of things.
Can’t really celebrate a win like that. More like a sigh of relief that it’s over. I can’t imagine not coming away from there with three points, given Burton are bottom of the league with only one win this season, and played half the game with ten men. NJ must be thanking his lucky stars this morning.!!!!
Nathan can pick my lottery numbers this week !!!
oops….pick
The video where he goes into the stand is after our win at High flying Derby last season. I don’t think he celebrated so wildly against a win against low lying Burton.
Ah. Was it. Okay makes sense.
Agree again with Daggs, thats now two in a row! 🙂
Jones is deluded, he implied it’s a hard place to come to plus advising we were much the better team and deserved to win etc. Stop there!
Burton have only won one game are bottom of the league have yet to appoint a new manager and obviously are feeling extremly down, yet they came out and really gave it a go, whilst we went around playing our normal unexpiring game and quite honestly never really looked like scoring until their player got sent off! So sorry Mr Jones, didn’t that change the game as you were so quick to attribute to our last loss, Quote”the sending off changed the game”!!! Funny he never mentioned that!
Agree with Daggs too.
Just delaying the inevitable outcome. He must have some performance related elements to his contract which l guess he is already failing. So they can sack him and make a meagre offer on the remaining contract. If he doesn’t like it he can take Charlton to Court. Look what happened to Curbs at West Ham. He never got a proper job after that even though he won his case fair and square.
Steady Mike, you’ll be finding yourself on the ‘naughty step’ with me 🙂
You weren’t on the naughty step, just a step on your own. Now we need a bigger step 🙂
🙂 😉
A win is a win and having gone nearly two months without a league win I can understand the nervousness and scrappy play, plus we have a number of players out injured.
We created the chances to have won comfortably – Ahadme had a free header, TC should have scored late on etc and if we had scored an earlier goal maybe we would have settled down and played better?
We still have to work on the creativity and final ball, but we also need to take the chances when they come.
Assaidmany
As said Many times we need a 20 goal a season scorer.
We had one …………….
