Greg Docherty signs from Hull City
Out of the blue this one. 27-year old Greg Docherty signs from Hull City on a three-year contract with a club option of a further 12 months (more).
Another Scotsman to join the ranks, Docherty played 90 games in the Championship in Hull’s last three seasons and before that was a key figure in Hull’s title winning promotion from League One in the ‘Covid season.’
Docherty was released by Hull in the summer and according to Jones and Scott he had many suitors. His name was mentioned in Addicks’ dispatches in January.
It sounds as if the Scot can play in a wide range of midfield positions but was used in a more defensive role under Liam Rosenior at Hull last season. Rosenoir, who surprisingly lost his job at the end of the season, was known for his passing build-up game at Hull.
Docherty came through Hamilton Academical’s academy and spent two seasons at Rangers before signing for Hull in the summer of 2020.
This deal might possibly end any sign of a Dobbo return.

I only said to my wife yesterday that it would be nice to have a signing that hadn’t already been leaked and there it is!
I would think that’s pretty hard to do this day and age.
A pivotal signing and will add strength and depth to our midfield….I’m getting more and more excited !!!
Good lad, sorry to see him go , a City fan
Appreciate the comment @Bridtiger
The thing that concerns me is that Jones & co are giving all these new signings 3 years contracts with an extra year if either party wants it. So if things do go pear shaped &/or quite a few of these players fail to perform we will be stuck with them, as per the last bunch of misfits who we are still trying to offload several without success, even for free!
Plus it would also appear, that apart from mostly costing more, they are also coming in on higher than the previous wages, with the exception of Aneke & Frasier, which would certainly put Charlton in an even more problematic scenario ongoing.
I can understand certain tried and tested players being offered long terms but not the others, even May was only signed for two years and he had two storming previous years. Also Small, who has been our best left back by far, was only given until the end of the season with the option of another year, which Charlton have done.
Lets just pray and hope Jones & Scott have got it right, as if they haven’t, we could also be looking for new owners next season!
We’ve been chasing him for some time and like one or two others who’ve signed I assume he had a few options before opting to become an Addick.
I was wondering about whether we’d re-sign Dobbo, it seems Hollywood FC are interested in him and he’ll be off to north Wales.
Anyway, another body in and we still have a month to go before the season kicks off. Unlike in previous years we are signing target players and not filling the side with cheap freebies.
solid team player, give 100% every game and travels with the ball extremely well.
Give him a few months and he’ll be appreciated on the terraces.
good luck Greg – Hull fan
Thanks Greg. Best of luck to the Tigers next season.
