England alarmingly bad, but somehow win
90+5 and 91 (ET) but for every minute before and after that we were woeful, worse.
Yet, somehow England survive another week, and poor Slovakia are sent packing.
England and Gareth Southgate were saved by Jude Bellingham and then Harry Kane. Great players do great things but for 94 or so minutes the great and good in English shirts were clueless, managed by possibly the most clueless of them all.
We won, yay, and our half of the draw still has possibilities written all over it, but surely we can’t keep on playing like that.
Eventually Southgate made changes and for a handful of minutes we had a much more threatening look about us. Palmer, Eze and Toney were all on, who gave a Kane a much needed partner, but Southgate reverted to type by bringing two defensive players on at 2-1, and we sat deeper and deeper as we wished away the clock.
It was mind blowing how bad and how bereft of ideas we were. The passing was poor, aimless balls forward following half a dozen ponderous passes around the back.
Only Mainoo was any good, the rest in equal measure terrible. This was Iceland all over again, with Roy Hodgson’s lovechild sat motionless on the bench.
Yet, somehow some Bellingham brilliance and a Kane header got us through. I have no idea how.

From dire to semi-dire !!
I’m still scratching my head at the result…Switzerland in the next game will be very different and its doubtful we’ll win.One swallow doesn’t make a summer
Gareth and the squad must be in shock that they got a result with only two shots on Georgia’s goal in 90 minutes.
Englands like watching Charlton play boring sideways and backwards passing mostly in their own half and cockups in defence, with the exception Charlton mostly have crap players! Though both have at least one decent striker who can score regularly, well we did have last season!!!
Change the record !! 🤣
Well my prediction didn’t happen and I’m tucking in to a (small) portion of humble pie.
Our big stroke of luck wasn’t on our pitch. It happened when Portugal were beaten by Georgia, as this changed who we would next meet, from Netherlands to Slovakia. Theoretically an easier opponent !
However we endured another dismal performance and display of clueless management. How we managed to win that will remain a mystery to us all and Southgate.
Next on to the Swiss. No more predictions from me. I just hope that somehow we can learn to play exciting, entertaining football again, before this competition is over.
I think England are collectively, Ray “the crab” Wilkins!
Sideways, backwards, sideways, sideways, sideways, backwards, sideways, backwards, backwards.
After years of not bothering to watch England live or highlights, I somehow thought this would be good time to check in again!
Wrong!!!! Shite written all over this team and manager. Scared to be forward thinking and progressive in play and approach. Safety first and even that’s at breaking point.
