The pain of no game
A few weeks back I’d have been happy to have a free Saturday away from the despair of football, but fast forward a few weeks and I found myself a little bit forlorn, especially as I was home alone with the dog as the girls were across the state at a swim meet.
So, what did you do on Saturday?
I had Sky on all day, saw Stockport thrash MK Dons, had on in the background the dreary England v Brazil friendly, and wondered how pissed off I would have been when Port Vale got a late winner if we’d have been in the same relegation pickle as we were not so long ago.
I did some jobs around the house, popped out to get some stuff to help do jobs around the house and took the dog on a couple of walks.
It was Wigan that initially called the game off, and from what Nathan Jones said last week the Addicks would have played it even without Karly Anderson (both with Jamaica), Nathan Asiimwe (Uganda) and Louis Fiorini (Scotland U21). The latter would have been a real loss.
Wigan actually had seven players called up, of which four or five are regular’s. You’d think they be safe now with five more points than us.
With this dark season coming to a close, and Wigan’s has been one to forget as well, what with their points deduction, I wished the two teams had just got on with it. The game has been re-arranged for April 9th.
I would like to see the club put an asterisk on fixtures that fall on international weeks as I’ve come a cropper a few times planning to be at home not knowing there was a good chance the game would be postponed.
Next season’s Sky TV scheduling will add more doubt to the regular fixture list.
At least saw Leamington featured on Football Focus and the Jude Bellingham link with the club. Unfortunately, Brakes were away at Redditch, not far but as I expected fans were attacked on the way back to the station despite a police escort. 2000 expected at big derby at Racing Club Warwick on Tuesday, police will be out in strength,
That’s sad to hear Wyn. Has hooliganism resurfaced at non-league level or is just local louts looking for a ruck?
These incidents have happened at local non-league derbies for years. I can remember a big ruck at a pre-season friendly between Southam United and Leamington, mind you the police were there so must have known something. I think about six were hospitalized after Leam v Rugby Town. On Tuesday I think I would be safe in the ground, but can’t risk the walk to my car afterwards.
Blimey. I know trouble has crept back into the game, but it’s been a while since I was apprehensive about making the car after.
