Red Army

3,000 Addicks will be backing Nathan Jones’ side tomorrow. Charlton could probably have sold even more tickets for this crucial game, although not season defining, huge nonetheless.

I like many have bemoaned the black shirts that the club have been forced into wearing on the road due to their sponsorship obligations with Greenwich University, so it will be great to see the players in red tomorrow.

Whereas understandably (true) Valley attendances dropped off significantly during Michael Appleton’s reign, our away support where numbers cannot be sugar coated have remained very strong.

Some of our numbers to places such as Carlisle, Bristol Rovers and Port Vale have astonished me quite frankly, especially considering the continual dross they have served up on the pitch.

So, what….? Pompey, half a game at Wigan and Barnsley the only times the players have shown up?

To add some more spice to the game, Jones comes up against his past coach at Southampton, Ruben Selles tomorrow.

New beginnings then, and this time hopefully a real page turner in the recent modern history of our club, which has almost entirely sucked.

Jones has spoken well about short and long term goals. Let’s get this thing started Charlton. Come on you reds.

It was first the recorded by The Supremes in the early 70s- Bananarama and others subsequently covered it.

I’ll be there and pleased we are in our red kit.
I’m sure Nathan and the coaching staff have a cunning plan to deal with Reading.
I’m nervous but get 3 points today and sets us up well for Tuesday evening against Lincoln.

We are well and truly overdue a win.

For that reason alone I think we’ll get the three points, but Reading also need the points and probably more than we do – I wouldn’t be surprised if they get another points deduction – which means that it should be an open sort of game. A draw isn’t of much use to them – or us.

Much has been made of Nathan Jones’ habit of counter-attacking and we could see that today.
