Dean Holden
Fair play to Dean Holden who has just taken a job in Saudi Arabia as Steven Gerrard’s assistant manager at Al-Ettifaq.
Holden hasn’t worked since leaving the Addicks in September, and I am sure being a big family man this was a difficult decision for him, but being a big family man also makes it an easier one in terms of future financial security.
It seems an odd couple with the massive Man U fan working alongside the massive Scouse icon, but Gerrard has a good reputation of being a good mentor and has set Neil Critchley, Michael Beale and Ian Foster on their way to becoming club manager’s.
El Ettifaq are based in Damman, a big centre for the countries oil industry and a hop away from Bahrain where I suspect Holden will live and commute back to Manchester.
Of course assistant manager’s tend to only last as long as the manager and Gerrard’s team have been struggling. Al-Ettifaq were 8 without a win before the league’s winter break, and are 15 points from the Champions League places.
Much has been said of attendances in the Saudi Pro League and Al-Ettifaq’s home crowds have dropped to 5,000 from a high of 14,000 in their season opener.
Hopefully Dean and his upbeat way can help get them going. The best of luck to him.

Which one was he again 😜
The two or perhaps three before last 😁
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Here is the new boss Nathan, hopefully better than the old boss Appleton…
Let’s turn the key and burn rubber !!!!
My best wishes for Dean and hope he does well.
I wish Dean well. I think he was a little unlucky to be sacked as quickly as he was. It looks an even worse decision when you consider his replacement ……………
