Appleton sacked

After tonight’s home defeat to Northampton, Michael Appleton was immediately relieved of his duties (more).

He wasn’t even allowed to carry out his after match interview. He made his way straight down the tunnel after we fell to another injury time goal, whilst Alfie May and George Dobson led the players in clapping the Covered End.

Twelve matches without a win and a 23% win ratio. He leaves the club 4 points from relegation with teams below having games in hand.

Games in hand and our upcoming fixtures horrendous (but then again what fixture isn’t).
Attack top 6 defence bottom 4 – all down to Andy and Jimbo now, let’s hope they get it right as otherwise the first game on the new season list we’ll be scanning for could be the big local derby with Bromley.
Genuinely laughed when that one went in, no anger just apathy.

I hope the owners make Rodwell, Scott and Methane pay Appleton’s compensation, ‘🤡 to the left of me, 🃏 to the right, I’m stuck in the middle with SMT’

As I said two days ago. He should have been sacked before the January transfer window.
But no, they sack him part way through it. Whoever the new manager (mug) is, he’ll have no chance to bring anyone in.
Anyone who thinks we aren’t in the relegation battle needs a kick up the a*se.

That smirk on his face coming out of the tunnel/at the final whistle was when he just worked out the amount of compensation he was due.
    Serial thief, allegedly.
We now have to appoint someone with a Charlton connection, to get the fans back onside for the relegation scrap ahead.

About time. He was the wrong man from the start. Probably the best of a bad bunch of applicants at the time. Lets see if the hierarchy have someone up their sleeve as a replacement. I reckon they have, given the swift way Appleton was removed straight after the game. The circus trundles on.

Who in their right mind would come to Charlton now? We’ve become an impossible job.
Maybe someone who realises they’re unlikely to last 8 months but can convince the club to give a 2 year contract?

I was at the game till the bitter end and again conceeded a late goal.and another defeat.
I have no faith in Rodwell,Scott and Methven who are out of their depth and are fully responsible for the shambles we are in.
They have hidden behind Appleton and have not shown any connection with fans of any true value.
    Pity the owners can’t sack them.too !!!!
Curbs seems the obvious choice but would he want the aggro of working with the SM team ?
We are in great danger of relegation and its all down to poor management of Rodwell,Methven and Scott…..hang your heads guys as you’ve allowed this to happen despite obvious warnings since the Summer.

Agree with most as have said many times that Appleton should have gone a while ago and until we pay out for a decent manger with a good track record, we will just go on this merry roundabout once again!

He was the wrong person for the job in the first place and was only appointed because he happened to be available and known to the SMT after they rashly axed Dean Holden.

The only time we looked good under his reign was when he had a fit and reasonably full squad, once the injuries mounted up then our form went south and never recovered.

We are onto our seventh full time manager since relegation and of those only Bow walked away with a better offer in his pocket. The fault isn’t necessarily Appleton’s but there are endemic problems the lack of structure and little depth in the squad, our training methods that seem to leave too many players in the physio’s room and a poor recruitment process that focuses on short-term objectives over longer-term goals.

I see that Nathan Jones’ name is being touted, as a left field suggestion I was impressed with the way Northampton played and were set up and wouldn’t mind if we put in an offer for Jon Brady.

Desperate times need desperate measures. We need someone NOW who knows the club & the squad. There’s only 1 option – Curbs, at least until the end of the season. Premiership experience, excellent man-manager, motivator, knows the club inside out – what’s not to like??

That should get us out of this relegation mire and give the 3 (un)wise monkeys breathing space to get the right person in for next season .. assuming Curbs wouldn’t want the hassle of carrying on!
If he did then all the better for us…

We have to keep him. Any new players must come FIT and match ready.
