Heading in the right direction with Andy

Andy Scott will tell you that he is blameless in the current mess the club finds itself in. He is all about long term strategy and can’t be held accountable for the gutless squad that was put together before he appeared on the payroll.

And you know what? I am going to humour him and play along with it, so come on Andy the floor is now yours.

Time for you to put up or shut up, and I will pretend you had nothing to do with the last two windows nor the dreadful appointments of the last two managers.

Four days into the window and we have rumours of what Peterborough consider low bids for Jonson Clarke-Harris, plus I would hazard a guess of agent talk of a bid for West Ham’s defensive midfielder Conor Coventry and what sounds like a failed medical for Plymouth’s Macaulay Gillesphey, who was at The Valley on New Year’s Day.

Wigan’s out of favour striker Stephen Humphrys was also mentioned in dispatches.

It’s unlikely anyone will be in the building before Saturday, with no injured player returning anytime soon.

Nevertheless let’s not panic, we have Andy at the wheel and if believes we are heading in the right direction then he must be right.

    It’s woeful isn’t it.
Whilst this season may be done there does still need to be visible signs of progressive cohesion to keep the (half) decent squad members and fans engaged. Oh yes and let’s not forget we now look at the bottom 3 not the top 6.
If we end up with another sprinkling of dodgy frees and loans I for one will be done. Simply not worth the investment of time and emotion.

I wish I could support someone else but can’t Charlton forever 😇

That’s my problem, too; I’m 76 and have supported Charlton for most of my life. Sigh!

Only another twenty-six days to go before we get our new quota of loans, kids, and other clubs cast-offs. Over the last five seasons the only positive business we have done in transfer windows is Dobson, Blackett-Taylor and May. Lost count of all the others who have passed through,( or are still here ) and have no confidence the next three weeks will produce anything different. As I said in the summer ‘Prove me wrong Andy Scott’.

CA, I believe your expertise is in the financial field.
Can you explain why anybody would put good money into a sleeping giant and then only invest enough to keep it comatose?

Scott must accept some of the blame but should be given time to redeem himself. If He accepts Appleton was a mistake and roads are being explored to appoint a new manager then there is no point in giving Appleton money in this window. Best to play the talanted youngsters and assess in the summer

So many misthruths have been issued by the new owners and SM at the club….so many broken promises…so many bad decisions….so many false horizons…so many hopes dashed and we the fans are lead by the skipper of a rudderless ship who ignores the cries from the crew.
Mutiny is on the cards if things are done to save our club.
How many ladders have we walked under….how many mirrors have we smashed to deserve this ?

Ok Mr Scott…NOW you have to show you mean business and do something positive to help the team progress…
So much for the excuses….put up or shut up.
We have had enough of the shambles to date and money paying fans are being fleeced once again.

    “heading in the right direction”…..
That interview was given on 22nd December.
Reading it again now you can only laugh as almost all his fancy words and utter drivel completely shot down in flames, just 10 days later.

It seems that there are irons in the fire, some rumours are better than no rumours and the players we are being linked with – Conor Coventry, JCH, Greg Docherty, Gillesphey etc are the sort of players that we need and some have experience further up the pyramid.

We also (and to be fair to Andy Scott here) have to sort out whether Dobbo, CBT and Miles Leaburn are going to stay at the club and if so, sign new contracts, if not we should and probably will shift them on while we can get some money for them.

Gillingham appear to be trying to poach JCH and that maybe why the deal hasn’t been finalised as yet. If he wants to play L2 football then he’s not the sort of player I’d want at our club.

The sad fact is that any player committing to Charlton on a full-time basis will very likely be playing L1 football next season. We are no longer a big club that can guarantee a high-profile.

The ownership and management at Posh ain’t gonna accept a piss poor bid of £350k when the obvious going rate for a capable striker is minimum £500k and Alfie M was a bargain for that!
If the Gills can match £350k then Scott’s paymasters have to offer credible money. It’s unusual to have this much plausible talk this early in a window so I’m inclined to believe bids have been made and talks held. The injury situation has been dreadful for which the blame can’t really be laid at anyone’s door. Same can’t be said of Appleton’s refusal to employ the best midfielder available to him and persist with a wheezy pisstaker. That’s misconduct by both Apples and Fraser. If I were Louie Watson I’d tell Apples and Scott to poke it and take the Thameslink back to Luton.
Port Vale looking forward to the 3 easiest points they’ll receive all season. We Addickted looking over our shoulder at the abyss
