Micah Mbick signs pro deal

I think other than the moist studious of Charlton’ academy, no one would have heard of Micah Mbick until about 3 weeks ago.

Micah Mbick was given his debut by Michael Appleton, who Micah had obviously impressed. He then almost instantly scored after coming on as sub away in the FA Cup replay at Cray Valley. Today Mbick penned his first pro contract.

The 17-year-old has been at the club since he was ten, and has scored 12 goals in 13 games for the U18s and U21s so far this season.

The very best of luck to you Micah, and it is heartening to see four young strikers on the books who are ‘one of our own’ – Micah, Patrick Casey, Daniel Kanu and Miles Leaburn.

Too many players over the years have been picked off by bigger clubs, and although undoubtedly these four will all move on eventually at least the club and the staff at the academy achieve some value for their continual great work with young players.

Another ‘new signing’ today was the return of ex Addicks’ media and communications man Olly Groome.

Long time employee and lifelong Addick, Olly was dumped shamefully by Thomas Sandgaard and later won damages against the Dane. He was working for Welling United leading their media output but today signed up for the Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT) to oversee their own marketing and communications.

Welcome home Olly.

Yeah. I don’t bother with the Pizza LDV Checkatrade Bristol Motors cup games. Didn’t even watch it. Did you?
