Elliott adds reassurance
There has been a few times Paul Elliott’s name has been mentioned as a potential investor or associate in one of the seemingly endless ownership changes at Charlton. He has never taken the bait until recently, and in this interview with The Guardian, it is reassuring to hear as to why he has decided to act.
“When I came back to this club my heart just sank because the whole culture and set of values, its longstanding reputation as a community club, it was like it had been ripped out.”
I think all Addicks, especially those of a certain vintage, really get those sentiments.
However Elliott feels it is the right time, and has publicly stated that he believes in the method of ownership and the changes the senior leadership (SMT) are trying to instill.
Going to school in Woolwich is a little different to Eton, but Elliott specifically mentioned his relationship with Charlie Methven.
“There’s been a lot of stuff said about Charlie Methven but I work closely with him and I like him. I trust him.”
The last part is important to me. Elliott saw his trust of Richard Rufus go down the toilet so I trust that he has done his homework. Paul comes across as an intuitive and intelligent bloke.
I trust you Paul to make the right decision and I am very happy to see you associated once more with our great club.
Still needs more time before credibility is established.
With me too Terry. Even though I am heartened to see both people like Steve Sutherland and Paul Elliott to talk positively about the new group. I am still very much in the action not words camp.

I think and hope that Paul will have impact in monitoring and effecting crucial future critical decisions that SMT make.
Like you I know he is an honest guy who has the best interests of the club at heart.
Above all he could be the conduit between the management and the fans as at present fans are not fully aware of what is happening at the club.
These days it’s hard to trust SMT until communication improves a lot more !!
We had a long chat with Paul about his return and his role after the game on Tuesday. Very switched on and would believe he will make an excellent contribution in the reshape.
