James Abankwah on loan from Udinese
As suggested earlier, the Irish born James Abankwah has signed on a season loan from Italian Serie A side Udinese.
The Italian side bought him for what was thought to have been a large transfer fee from League of Ireland team St. Patrick’s Athletic in January 2022. He has played twice for Udinese.
Whilst Andy Scott is making him out to be the next Paolo Maldini, James is just 19-years old. If we are aiming to be the best U23 side in the league then we have a bloody good chance.
I hope James is the new Paul Elliott, but we have another player in the supposed promotion playing squad that has hardly played professional football. Will he be the answer to an already very inexperienced defence that is crying out for organization and judgment?

I’m not sure how it’s going to pan out but things are being done very much on the cheap. Looking across stuff that’s been said about this kid over the last couple of years online on a few forums everyone seems to rate him so who knows? Tedic if we get him could be interesting, he seemed to have adapted well to league 1 towards the latter stages and Barnsley fans seem to think he would be useful if he returned.
So what happened to bringing in some experince players? All we have done is bring in as CA has said, all inexperinced under 23’s who aren’t match fit and have hardly played any first team games between them! Yet we loan out one of our best young prospects to Colchester to gain some first team experince, whose probably better than most of them anyway, makes complete sense, not! Plus we can’t get McGrandles of our books to Cambridge as he is now injured, probably playing on Aneke’s playstation! Nor Kirk or Jasemi as no one wants them
Still it could be worse, we could get Nigel Adkins back with Bowyer as his assistant and they can give Aneke another extended contract! 🙂
