Addicks in Spain

I was going to tune in tomorrow to see the boys play Leyton Orient but it kicks off at 6am here. Mind you it is a two hour match split into 30 minute quarters, so I am sure I will catch a bit of the action at some point.

Over 150 Addicks are in Marbella to follow the team, which is pretty amazing. I hope they are having a great time in the sun.

The game takes place at the Marbella Banus Football Center, and has plenty of seats. Bournemouth, Hibernian, Orlando Pirates and Maccabi Tel Aviv are also using the impressive looking facilities this week.

The eminently likeable Dean Holden certainly seems to be enjoying himself (speech starts at about 2.30 mins)

I was near Malaga 2 weeks ago- even walking around in 30 + degrees C is hard.By all accounts it’s hotter now.Exertion in this heat- is wise? Next summer let’s have a tour to somewhere cold (er) and wet.

Interestingly Lloyd Jones our new Centre Back, presumingly also injured, is also missing along with injured Miles Leaburn amd always injured waste of space Chucks.

So at present we only have one new outfielder signed and available for the start of the season Alfie May! Little wonder Charlton are making such a big noise over signing him we have far less actual first team players than last season and some of those are rejects coming back from a loan period last season!

Plus it advises, can’t defend and never gets stuck in, Scott Frasier, is Captain!!!

    Can it get any worse?

You have to wonder why some people support the team with all this constant negativity!

Had the privilage of attending a performance of ‘Dear England’ at the National Theatre and its fantastic.
It about Gareth Southgates tenure as England Manager and how he’s transformed the national team and deals with the England players he’s managed since he was appointed.
A fantastic cast do justice to the players and its very funny with some though provoking issues.

The play definately changed my opinion of Gareth and how he emotionally dealt with the penalty miss he experienced.
He dealt really well with recent players who have had that misfortune….Deli Ali is currently in the news and the play dealt well with his time playing for England.
It’s an impressive production and I feel very very accurate.

As temperatures soar in Spain, I wonder how that affects the Addicks training and friendlies plans. There can’t be many Div 1 clubs who could afford some away time abroad, so full marks to the new Board for backing this and for bringing in hitherto unheard of numbers of new signings. As a Scot I’ll be interested to see how fare against Aberdeen. Will this be the season when Charlton actually fulfil our expectations?

The players looked to have worked hard – Dean Holden talked last season about the players lacking a bit of fitness and said he was determined to out that right in pre-season.

Judging by the videos he’s following through on that – and as you note he has the PR side covered.

We need a few more signings though, we still need the box-to-box midfielder and to work out what to do with Charlie Kirk and DJ, both were on the trip so presumably are in Holden’s immediate plans.

Dean Holden appears to be the best manager we have had for quite a while without the normal bull…. we normally are served up! I just hope this new brigade of Owners are better than any of the other previous charlatans, as he needs to be backed with some decent signings, as at present looks like there isn’t too much change from last season, with still too many very average players and actually even lighter squad, which is not looks of a promotion chasing team! Which shows by the lack of season tickets sold, which I believe at present is quite a bit less than even last year, which wasn’t good!
