May’s day but not Dabo’s

And there he is. The ‘will he won’t he’ saga of Alfie May has concluded, and he will and has.

The 30-year old has signed a two-year deal with the option of a third year and will wear the no. 9 shirt.

I didn’t know that May played for Doncaster in the play-off games, although he was more witness than player as he only came off the bench for 6 minutes in the 1st game and was an unused sub in the 2nd, but I would have to imagine that that atmosphere at The Valley will stay with you for a very long time.

Hopefully we get to do that all over again. Welcome Alfie.

Another player was at The Valley today with the hope of being unveiled and that was right-back Fankaty Dabo, but be all accounts he failed a medical.

Dabo looks pretty decent with a good pedigree and has played 116 games for Coventry, most of which have been in The Championship, I guess we will have to wait to see what develops there.

Delighted with the signing of Alfie at what appears to be an absolute bargain price. Bad news about Miles’s injury so we now desperately need a striker..as well as a proper left back. 13 players have left this close season and only 3 have come in so we are way down on numbers.

If Leaburn is out for a significant period he needs to be replaced, May is not a No.9 despite being given that squad number. He cannot be expected to win aerial battles against central defenders 5-6 inches taller and 3-4 stones heavier. He has the ability to find space which to me means playing with a target man of size. The other downside is that attacking and defending set plays will be badly affected without such a player.
I hope that Dagbo can overcome his medical issue as he looked good in the Luton v Coventry play offs despite missing a penalty in the shoot out.

    Hi CA,
Thank you for keeping faith in my assurance that Alfie May will (has) become a Charlton player…..Alfie now needs to show his talent for us this season.
