Champions of London

Ring it up.

London Senior Cup Champions, Carabao Cup champions of London and the highest placed London team in the league (*third tier). We are great.

In all seriousness it was a wonderful achievement by the U21’s to win the London Senior Cup beating Haringey Borough 5-3 last night in extra-time. Those in attendance called it one of the games of the season, and Danny Senda adds another string to his burgeoning bow as do the string of exciting young academy players we are very fortunate to have.

The London Senior Cup was first contested in 1882, and in true Addicks style we threw away a 3-0 lead, but that was down more to clinical finishing than us being dominant as Haringey were always in the game. They pulled it back to 3-3 in the 2nd period and missed a penalty.

In extra-time captain Zach Mitchell headed in a fourth before hot prospect 18-year old Harry Kedwell sealed the win.

I rarely have been disappointed to not have been at a game this season, but if I was living in the London area I’d have hoped that fascination would have gotten the better of me and I’d have made the trek to north-west London and followed the lads just like around 100 Addicks actually did.

Congratulations to everyone associated with the Charlton Athletic academy. They make you proud.

Also last weekend Jason Pearce’s U18’s won their league – the Professional Development League 2. That is also a great achievement for Pearcey in his first season of coaching.

I think this maybe the third time in a row we have won this title, and will hope to win the national title in the play-off games which we have failed to do in the past two tries. Last year’s winners Sheffield United await in the semi-final.

  1. I think it was the U18’s that won the Cup and so, completing a double for them?

Hi CA – was about to sign off for the summer and wish you a good one as have become so fed up with all the negativity on social media (and my own!). Not saying it isn’t justified – but I need a rest. So how wonderful to read something positive about our youngsters – and I won’t spoil it with any realistic stuff about how long any of them will stay at the club.
I decided we need to take a lesson from the Port Vale fans on Saturday – I couldn’t understand why so many of them had come, and why they were so up for a game that didn’t matter. But that was my ignorance of how they had come up via the play offs last year so clearly staying up was the goal. So there you have it – if we want to have something to celebrate at the end of next season we just need to set the bar low enough. I’ll leave it to you to decide how low that bar should be.
Thank you for your wonderful blog and I would just like to congratulate Jes on his Loan Player of the Year Award, and George on his Player of the Year Award (always).
