Ipswich Town 6 Charlton Athletic 0

Where do you start with that? Well, you don’t.

It was embarrassing and shameful and almost a year after losing at Portman Road 4-0 when we were dreadful, today only goes to underline how far we have now fallen behind in quality, ability and desire to get out of this division.

Not for the first time we were not at the races against a superior team. The only positive is there is no way to spin or sugar coat how much has to change during the summer.

I pity those that again filled the away end, most of who were on their way homes long before the final whistle.

Dean Holden: “There’s a huge gulf between the teams today. There’s no doubt about that. It’s a humbling experience. We didn’t start the game in the correct manner, conceding three corners in the first couple of minutes. 2-0 down after 15 minutes.”

Stats (CAFC first): Possession – 40% / 60%; Passes – 344 / 511; Accurate passes – 250 / 419; Shots (on target) – 7 (2) / 26 (5)

incredible. this being just as a remarkable an event as our 6-0 win against shrewsbury albeit this time it felt the nervosa being super sensitive as we cower away from the result. awful near shameful, this was as near a departure from quality as you would expect from a depreciated Ant & Dec show; dare I say would have fitted nicely within the team.

Macauley Bonne liking photos on the Ipswich Instagram page straight after the match was thy final insult.

    • Same with Fraser smiling and chatting away with ex-teammates after. I haven’t got a problem with that but he can’t wait until he gets down the tunnel?

I think it shows a complete lack of passion and desire to fight for the cause. They should be furious after that match and not in the mood to joke about or like Instagram posts. I see more competitiveness in my u6’s.

        • Not for the first time Luke we need a whole sea of change of attitude and ambition at the club. Hopefully Holden can deliver that.

Absolutely agree – this summer will be crucial. Along with the ownership situation. I have faith (just about!)

Total lack of respect for Charlton fans for Bonne and Fraser to be joking and liking on social media.
Hang your heads in shame both of you !!!
I hope Dean will pull them aside and express his anger about that and their performance.

That was a brutal reality check.

There was a gulf not just in class but in desire. Ipswich were determined to win and do so comfortably and they did, but too often they were pushing at a door that was already open. We knew this was going to be a tough game – possibly the toughest of the season but the players did not look mentally prepared for it. Hopefully the lesson learnt here is about who has the character to perform in these sort of matches and who goes missing.

The only good thing is that we have a midweek match against MK Dons to bounce back at so we don’t have this result festering all week.

Well done Dean on your intention to speak with Bonne regarding his worship of Ipswich on social media.
Holden has my utter respect as a manager who won’t stand for idiotic actions of a player who isn’t exactly performing well…..I’m sure charlton fans will appauld Dean.
Bonne will be lucky to be retained next season…maybe Welling will have him ?
