Lincoln City 0 Charlton Athletic 0

Another draw, and a clean sheet. That was the only positive to take from a dreadful game.

Sat watching emotionless, I realized that this is what we are. Bottom half of the 3rd Division playing our part in desperately boring games. Stinking refereeing, stinking football. One shot on goal each. Boom 💥

Lincoln were abysmal, but we never looked like scoring other than Leaburn’s weak shot that did look like it crossed the line, but at that point in time the lino was 15 feet behind play, and the referee was sat on his arse. It only added to the entertainment hogwash.

Garner picked the team I was hoping, in a 4-2-2. No complaints there, and we started quite lively but what followed was abominable. Our passing at least any material passes, were shocking.

I’m not sure what the answer is, but heavens these players have to be better than this don’t they? Egbo, Inniss and Wollacott the only players worth a clap at the end. Wollacott got us a point with a very good save.

We sit in 18th, and the bottom three in the form table, no win in 8. Tuesday could get nasty.

Ben Garner: “We’re still early in the process. My concern is focusing on the team and improving performances. Looking to get that win as quickly as we can. By no means have we been poor this season.”

Stats (CAFC first): Possession – 55% / 45%; Passes – 463 / 380; Accurate passes – 357 / 275; Shots (on target) – 4 (1) / 6 (1)

By no means have we been poor this season….. don’t give us that BS …the results speak for themselves… we are boring, clueless, back and side to side passers, couldn’t hit a barn door, frustrating, and any of another hundred adjectives. This is an appalling team that has no clue how to win. So we start with two up front and we do play better, but we don’t have a sub that could replace either of them… and to be truthful we also look unfit for some reason.. btw thank god for Dobbo..

You say “Tuesday could get nasty” but it won’t. There will be hardly anyone there.
We supporters can do nothing about the destruction being wreaked on our club.
TS needs to sell up (but I’m not expecting it) Or he needs to finance a team rebuild in January (but he won’t)
Meanwhile Garner becomes more bewildered by the day.

I left this comment on here 5 or 6 games ago, ‘If you get your manager and head coach from League 2 + 50% of you summer transfers from League 2 then there’s every chance you’ll end up closer to League 2 than the championship’ I did qualify this at the time with “I do hope I’m wrong”.
Sadly no, the displays since have just reinforce this.
In Connor Washington and Alex Gilbey we’ve let players go who are top League one players…in CW’case clearly Championship. The other two potential Championship players we still have (JFC and Chuks) are for whatever reason not playing……so we are where we are, the only thing we can hope for is we retain our place in League one this season!
In fairness, Ben Garner hasn’t really been given the tools to do his job, although my sympathy is slightly muted as he must of known what TS’s financial strategy was before accepting the job and leaving Swindon….what new potential manager wouldn’t ask that question!
So I fear we will now see Chucks, JFC, Alex Gilby and Jayden Stockly sold, if not in the next widow then next summer, so Ben Garner can create the financial headroom to bring in replacements that better fit into his system of play. I suspect some of which will be from League 2 again, enabling him to fully deploy his high press 4-3-3 formation.
Regretfully I’m now not overly saddened or particularly disappointed with our results or the way we play……I resigned myself to lower half of League one this year many games ago and at least a win might be a pleasant lift rather than an expectation.

Cant see Garner lasting much longer. TS probably wont sack him due to compensation pay out, but he will just squeeze the will out of him, just like he is doing the the club and fans.

I was tempted to post a message but l have no enthusiasm to even do that. Totally depressing situation on and off the pitch, perfectly summed up by Houndal.

How the hell can Gardner say afterwards that the team didn’t deserve to be booed by the Charlton travelling fans, as they played well, kept a clean sheet and should have won the game!
What planet is he on, just one effort on target and are playing no better than last season, with boring tedious football, discounting the one off game with Plymouth who are now top of the division!

CA, as I sit there in front of the computer, game after game, bored still and getting upset with what I am watching, using up my full season Charlton TV subscription, I have to wholeheartedly concur with paragraph two of your summation above. Time to drag out that old derogatory shot at our club…..”Charlton Pathetic!”

  8. One thing I forgot to mention in my ‘report’ was how bad was Blackett-Taylor when he came on. Wtf.

Blackett-Taylor’s work was somewhere between dreadful and hopeless. The manager should have stuck to his guns when he previously left him off the roster for “lack of effort.” Add to that….”lack of talent.”

    Chuks to the rescue……………

If the manager publicly criticises a player (justified or not) you can hardly expect said player to come on and give it his all.
Very poor man management from Garner.

    • Daggs – Bowyer used to get dogs abuse from fans for doing that. These things should be kept in-house, and I thought it was the first crack in Garner’s sangfroid.

The academy is the only area of the club that is successful – incredibly our U18’s beat Liverpool 8-1 at the weekend, so the news today that further cost cutting via redundancy is about to hit the academy staff is very depressing, but I suppose fairly typical of the TS regime.

    October 10, 2022
    • houndal – This has not been typical though in that he has sponsored and invested in the academy over the first team. If true, and there a lot of people in the know suggesting it, then this is the disastrous news for the future of the club.

PS – No sign of Chuks…………
