Welcome Conor McGrandles

A surprise late signing tonight when not long after the club unveiled it’s new website, the first news article which looked like a test page, announced a new signing.
That is 26-year old midfield playmaker Conor McGrandles. Falkirk born McGrandles turned down a new contract with Lincoln City and in a ‘Dale Stephens move’ signed a three-year contract with Charlton after declaring he was homesick.
Another player with leadership experience, he often captained Lincoln and the majority of his over 200 plus league games have been at L1 level. He was previously at MK Dons, and prior to that at Norwich who brought him down from Scotland where he made his Falkirk debut at the age of 17.
Described as a deep-lying playmaker, less of a defensive midfielder, more one that likes to dictate play. By all accounts the Scot has a good range of passing and is a worker bee. Possibly he and Dobson could be good foils for each other.
McGrandles also joins a growing Scottish contingent in the Addicks squad. Welcome to the clan Conor.
As for the new Official Site, it looks simple and eye-catching but it was looking better for me in the mobile version tonight. Hopefully we lose the Charlton AFC address.
Best signing for me so far – although have no gripes about those already signed. Just what we have lacked for years, someone with a bit of bite in midfield. I am liking the possibility of Fraser, Dobson and this guy in midfield. Given our numbers in this area, expecting some departures.
Hopes are slowly rising
The only player I’ve heard of that we’ve signed so far. That’s a good start.
At last a signing of a player who can add a new dimension to our midfield.
My hopes are beginning to rise but still a very long way to go.
Welcome to Charlton Conor !!!
Well at least we should be able to offload Gilbey now! 🙂
A good signing…
Too often last season were over-tun and out-muscled in the centre of the park and we needed someone with a bit of combativity and presence to play there. From what I’ve read Conor likes to get stuck in, he picked up a fair number of yellows which suggests he’s not afraid of getting his legs dirty.
Could prove to be a shrewd signing seems to be a player who likes to get stuck in. However, the more I look into the abilities of Egbo the more I fear we have made a major mistake as he lacks defensive ability and his positional sense is not good.
rierti, agree accordingly at Swindon, his defensive duties were much to be desired!
But at least we have still have Clare who did well at right back, what worries me we haven’t got one left back in the camp at all and if I am correct, all the central defenders are right footed as well.
But no doubt we can pick up yet another duffer on loan for that position, it may come to it that we all wish Purrington had been kept on, I hope not!
I will be disappointed if the club does not announce at least a half dozen more signings of quality, as depending on a number of those on last year’s roster for starting positions would be folly at best. We desperately need a prolific striker. If it becomes somewhat “pricey,” go for it, because, otherwise, promotion just won’t happen and Charlton simply does not belong in League One.
