Rotherham United 0 Charlton Athletic 1

Ahhhh. Enjoy that one Addicks. Out of the blue came a very well deserved win on the road against a very good side.

A solid defensive display with another dominating performance from MacGillivray with Pearce once again relishing and coming out on top of a stiff battle against a team that pep your box with a range of balls.

I wonder how many games Pearce has played in this season when we’ve had a clean sheet?

We again started the game well but didn’t fade and although we had to weather some pressure the attacking stats were all in our favour. All square at the half, which started late after someone was taken ill in the crowd — I hope they are okay.

It was an unlikely match-winner but George Dobson deserved every yard of it as his scorching shot sailed past their keeper and rippled the next in front of a hard core group of happy Addicks on 55 minutes.

After that we looked pretty comfortable and could have added to the scoreline. As the game closed with Stockley heading away every cross and Washington threatening on the counter the final whistle signalled one of the best results of the season.

If only there were a few more to cherish!

Jacko: “I thought we defended brilliantly, especially our penalty box and our goalkeeper. I felt that if we stayed in a compact shape, I thought we had a such a threat on the counter attack,”

The left side combination of Morgan and Blackett-Taylor seemed to work well, let’s hope Jackson gives them the chance to build on initial promise.

What a great goal – how many have we scored like that this season – none I think.
Love him to bits. Please God he doesn’t go – fed up with moaning fans telling him he is part of the worst team we have ever had. I don’t think so.

After an underwhelming last few weeks we get this performance, several players out injured/suspended, our season over while the Millers desperately needed the win to chase automatic promotion. In theory it should have been a comfortable home win.

A good tactical win for Jacko too – MacGillivray commanded his area, the main goal scoring threats were neutralised by good defending, the players linked well, Stockley put a shift in as an auxiliary defender and despite conceding possession we looked the team with the ideas on how to win it. Given what was at stake to keep Rotherham down to one shot on target is commendable.

And George Dobson’s goal was a cracker, in real time it looked a speculative punt but on watching the highlights there was some genuine skill, he hit through a ball going across him, it deserved to win the game or any match come to that.

LP – The table does not lie. This team is just about the worst we have ever had.
And that is not moaning, just stating fact.
