No Welling friendly

A tradition that goes back to 1987 will end this summer as Charlton have decided not to play Welling in a friendly.
The season opener began after Welling agreed to host our reserves when we were playing at Selhurst Park, and in practically all of the seasons since the club have taken a full team to Park View Road in pre-season.
This decision either tells us that Thomas Sandgaard and Ged Roddy are not necessary worried about tradition or it is a Nigel Adkins choice wanting to structure pre-season differently.
We play Dartford on July 17th, which I assume would have been the Welling spot. There are attendance restrictions in place at Dartford, which I’d assume would have affected Welling as well.
I’m all for change and a pre-season plan with the sole purpose to give the club the best start to the season as possible, but it seems a real shame that we can’t send some kind of team down there.
Who would you like to send? I think we have 11 first team players, one of whom will be at the Euros and three are kids.
Dartford are stronger opposition and their new ground facilities are fantastic at that level
If we still have 11 players by the third week of July then we will have bigger issues.
Welling made a loss of £120k and the Charlton game is very important to them for traditional and financial reasons .l am a season ticket holder at Charlton but my second team is Welling and I would like an official reason why this game will not go ahead. This is a traditional fixture which should not be ruined by anyone who is here today and gone tomorrow . Whoever it is
You aren’t entitled to an official reason. It was the clubs decision, I’m sure they had their reasons.
It shows that somebody(s) at the club sadly doesn’t respect tradition. Dartford has been home to the U23s so deserve some recognition, pity we can’t play both. I’m with Les Erwin on this matter.
