Lapslie makes the move
Announced yesterday and not unexpected. George Lapslie played 54 games for the Addicks and joined our academy when he was 11.
23 now, it is the right time for George to move on, although many would argue, me included, that we could have saved the wage cap on Alex Gilbey and had Lapslie in the first team squad instead.
Mansfield might be a step down, but George has already made a big impression, he will learn from a knowledgeable and connected manager and the Stags have been slowly but surely making their way up the table.

Another player on the move is Josh Davison who has left Woking to sign on loan for Forest Green Rovers in League Two, so a step up and a chance to get embroiled in a promotion battle.

Wage cap is not relevant in the case of Lasplie, according to the club.
I think its a mistake that will come back to haunt us and we could use him now – and he plays for a whole 90 minutes every game !!
Good luck to George and Josh. I totally agree with you that Lapslie is a better option for the future than Gilbey, let’s see where they are in a year or so. I hope Josh gets the chance at FGR to partner an experienced striker and is not used up front on his own.
The U23s played at QPR yesterday and won 2-1 no mention of the game on CAFCs website or twitter -bloody disgrace but not unexpected.
George Lapslie may not have been ready for Championship football last term, especially in a period of such turmoil at Charlton but he is so much more of what Charlton needs now. Bringing him in to the first team squad would require the exit of one of this season’s disappointments – Gilbey and Madisson being the obvious duffers. Moving them out can’t be taken for granted and Macclesfield’s offer is a ‘bird in the hand’. What doesn’t ring true is all the noise around new signings. What’s needed most of all by a country mile is able centre-halves. The suggestions are that midfielders or even strikers are likely arrivals.
