Hull City 2 Charlton Athletic 0

Bloody awful again. Start to finish. Hull so much better than us. No one played well, half of them didn’t seem to know where they were playing and I didn’t sense any type of game-plan.

What the hell has happened since the international break, something is clearly not right. We have just two injuries of any note. Yes, they are key centre-halves, but we have one glued to the bench while Bowyer insists on playing a stream of bizarre cocktails of formations and positions.

The only good thing about today was that we might not see Pratley and Watson for a few weeks. Pratley, who I love, was a liability before he got sent off, so was Pearce. The midfield was so short of any inspiration and imagination. Playing the ball sideways across our pedestrian back four, then eventually hoofing it to no one is getting very old.

Washington was quiet, Williams and Smyth made no difference when they arrived, and as for Bogle. I never want to see him in a red shirt again. Up there with one of the worst 45 minutes in a Charlton shirt by a striker.

Bowyer looks to me as if he is clueless of how to change it, and wants to complicate things as opposed to simplify them. He’s very headstrong, but times like these need a clear mind giving basis instructions, and worry just about what you can control. Curbs knows. Ask him Lee. Before Thomas books an unexpected flight.

Rubbish day, rubbish performance and we are in a rut. I really don’t want to rely on the transfer window changing everything, because January is tough and players that will come in will probably not be ready to play instantly, but some turnover may not be a bad thing.

A big few weeks for Lee, he really has not helped himself.

💬: “We’re looking for a centre-half in the window. We need to improve in the final third as well. We have a couple lined up, so we need to get them in quickly.” – Bow

    Spot on couldn’t agree more.

I can’t believe how many times Bowyer has said after these recent dreadful games, we were the better team! No we haven’t been, we may have had more possession in some, but thats been mostly in our own half sideways and backwards passing, you don’t win any games playing in your own half! I would bet Amos, has even probably touched/kicked the ball as much as any of our out field players! Apart from Aneke we don’t have one other decent forward, won’t even mention Bogle!!! The defence is a total shambles, cock ups galore, can’t defend free kicks, etc and that includes Bowyers star player at the moment Pratley. The midfield, apart from Williams & Morgan, who for some reason always seems to be taken off when we are losing, even though he looks like the best player at the time, are the only two who actually have some speed and can take players on, the rest are pedistrian. The team are so slow and predictable little wonder the other teams have all now sussed us out. Playing Matthews as left back when he can’t use his left foot was a disaster against Plymouth, so why the hell did Bowyer play him there again! It took a whole half for Bowyer to realise he had made the same mistake twice!

Mr Bowyer, we want you to suceed, but please stop blaming everything and everyone else and making excuses. You will get more fans behind you if you gave some of these players a mighty kick up the backside and drop them no matter who they are, plus also admit, that you yourself have made some poor decisions in the selections of the team and tactics. As you are now beginning to sound like your old Mentor now at Oxford, who always spouted out the same excuses when things weren’t going well, but never blamed himself!

Like you said as the game ended no one inspires you to watch this team, the only player in this squad with the potential to do this is going to be released – George Lapslie

I’ve been charlton fan since 1969 its the worst league one in my lifetime but I understand peoples frustration everyone should take a step back stop slating bowyer he’s never had a chance this season two centre half’s r the best in league injured Alfie out to get a team on the pitch was hard exempt this year could be written off give bowyer and backroom support hate fans getting on bandwagon if bowyer gets a chance then judge him fans please get behind them

    • Ian, I’m with you. Bowyer is still learning the management game, but he needs to set us up how he wants us to play not to counter the other teams. I think he over thinks it, tries to be something he isn’t. The trademark of a Bow season 1 (2nd half), 2 and 3 was basically get them to play like him. Where is that fighting, closing down, energetic spirit?

He has a lot of credit in the bank for me.

Chicago, you say Bowyer is still learning…………………………
How long does it take to learn, play your best available eleven in their natural positions?

Must admit that the decision to play Mathews on the left still puzzles me, despite Bowyer giving the reason for doing so. As you state we should be enforcing on the opposition how we want to play rather than trying to stop them playing. Agree that there is no point in having a go at Lee as we were performing better (albeit not convincingly) when we had both Innis and Famewo in the side. Just got to hope that we can keep pace with the rest of the group leading the pack as I cannot see the likes of Lincoln being able to sustain their current form for much longer, and I am sure once we get both centre backs fit we will see a marked improvement. As for Bogle he is going the right way to suggest that Simon Church was a decent striker !! It does not take a genius to see why he was unattached and available, how on earth could he be worth any amount of money, a disgrace to the profession.

    • It’s such a bad division, not a scratch on two seasons ago. Plenty of games left.

Not ready to slate bow yet, but agree with a lot of this, had most possession we are weak at that back , yet 90% of our possession was pratley across the back to Pearce till we have it away. Love pratley but I’d have taken Bogle off, no need to put anyone on, just get him off waste of a wage.

    • Robert – the wage cap is so important, but assume they would have to pay off Bogle’s contract so that would negate a positive budget. He is rubbish isn’t he.

In his previous two and a bit season’s Bow demonstrated that he can play players out of position and play different formations and still get results, but this year’s team have struggled to make it work.

On Saturday we had a DM at CB, a RB at LB and a LB at right-wing back…I think Bow needs to realise that it isn’t working and return to square pegs in square holes.

Pratley’s red card might force him into a change – well it will as he’s suspended it’s crazy to keep playing him at CB when we have a dedicated CB in Deji Oshilaja on the bench. Nevertheless we need cover there with Inniss and Famewo out for a further six weeks or so.

We still have slightly more than half the season left and the window is open, and we are still in the top six, but we need to be in good form from here on and the wheels are looking slightly wobbly.

And another change for Friday surely will see Ben Watson out – a hamstring injury should sideline him for a couple of weeks.
