A fixture amongst the chaos

Amongst all of this holy mess, a fixture was drawn out of a virtual hat this morning. The Carabao Cup 1st Round pitched us away to Swindon Town in the Southern Section.

When I look at that League One listing a few names send shudders down my spine, and Swindon is one of them. I was at the County Ground the last time we played them in November 2016.

It was Russell Slade’s last game before getting the sack and we were awful, worse than awful. It was another one of my low Duchatelet era moments, and I have bad memories of the players and particularly Slade getting dog’s abuse as they walked down the tunnel at the final whistle next to the loyal band of Addicks.

Swindon were PPG League Two champions last season and the 1st Round game will be played on Saturday 5th September, subject to international call-ups. We will realistically only have Jonny Williams involved in that international break.

The EFL fixtures are released on Friday. Oh joy.
