Birmingham City 1 Charlton Athletic 1

Gut wrenching. 93rd minute. What a hammer blow.

If we are going to do this, then it will be the bloody hard way…. always.

Absolutely gutted tonight. One point from the last two games. Even two would have given us something to cling onto. F sake.

Strange game really to summarize. We unusually had the majority of the possession, but they had 23 shots to our 7. Phillips could be criticized for their goal, but blimey he had a brilliant game, and without him we would have not have been clinging onto a 1-0 lead into injury time. Brilliant penalty save by the way.

I didn’t think we played as well as we had. Our passing was a little off, and there were many very sloppy stray passes. Cullen’s for the penalty as an example. Cullen’s ‘worst’ game and I invert the word worst, because the boy was hardly terrible.

McGeady, Lockyer and Field all played well.

Goals though eh? Last time we scored twice was at Wembley wasn’t it? Seems like it. Terrific run from Doughty for Bonne to finish into an empty net, but then he misses a sitter, same move yet their keeper was lying in front of him. Can’t find the net. Hemed was good I thought, but never going to score is he? I mean he’s scored over 100 goals in his career. But ain’t ever going to score again.

Aneke was good too when he came on. Our best sub. I wish we only had three subs. Easy For others to be a Monday morning quarter back after the final whistle, but at the time I was okay with Bowyer’s subs. But I just don’t know if you want to change half your team in a 20 minute window.

Doughty is such a great outlet, as is Jonny, and Morgan and Sarr just did not hang onto the ball as much as the players they replaced. Yet, to the Blues’ credit they kept coming for us, and for the 7th time this season we concede in injury time.

The hard way, this is Charlton after all.

Bow said: “We can’t see a game out, we don’t manage it well. Other teams they manage the game better going into injury time, they slow things down, they get fouls, they buy fouls, we don’t do that.”
Elsewhere: Stoke drew at Bristol City tonight. Middlesbrough had a big win at Reading last night, Wigan had an even bigger win at home to Hull. Huddersfield grabbed a point at Hillsborough and Luton were held at home by QPR.

There most surely is a special place in hell for Charlton fans. Broad shoulders? you’d need to be stacked like the humber bridge to follow our club.

    • 😂 There is a big ghostly East Terrace down there waiting for all of us.

I followed the game on text… and I am sorry to say but I sure Bowyers substitutions are costing us. Too many at the same time and too early in games… same happened at Brentford. By changing his entire midfield we allowed Birmingham to assert themselves and then once 7 minutes came up… their goal was always going to happen. Wigan on Saturday, yet another must win game. I’m afraid I can’t see us getting another point, Lyle Taylor should hide in shame. So disappointing.

That’s it, division one next year! Can’t score or finish a game off. Bower will leave for sure now, why stay when he can manage a descent championship team. So disappointed after QPR we looked like we would be ok, can’t see us getting anymore points, all the other relegated threatened teams picking up points. Only themselves to blame though.

As so often, it’s easy to think that conceding a late goal has once again cost us valuable points, but sloppy play and not converting chances into goals are as much to blame. Bonne tries his best up front, but the leap to the championship is proving to be very difficult for him – thanks for your loyalty in seeing the season out Lyle Taylor, I’m sure they’ll be an appropriate welcome from Valley fans should you ever return here as an away player.

Very difficult uphill task to retain Championship status now. Team selection continues to baffle me. How does Hemed start in front of Aneke and Doughty should play left midfield not full back.
Davison deserves some pitch time his energy would help when we look to see out the last 15-20 mins. of a game when in my opinion we go too defensive.

If I have a criticism of Bow is that he goes defensive and tries to protect 1-0 leads, by doing that we invite the pressure and the inevitable happens. We might just get away with it, Hull are in trouble and playing badly, Barnsley need to win all their remaining games and Wigan have 12 points to be deducted. A win or draw tomorrow is what we need, but where will the goals come from? Bonne looks short of confidence and Hemed and Aneke aren’t getting in the rigt positions. We need one or more of them to step up – no excuses, they are professionals and this pressure comes with the job.
