Espana por favor
The Addicks are off to Spain this weekend for a pre-season training camp. The importance of which cannot go unnoticed. After years of Katrien Meire not being able to hold a piss up in a brewery type planning, it was Karl Robinson who eventually managed to convince Roly to cover a short trip to Ireland in 2017, hastily thrown together and in fact just imitating what he did the season before at MK Dons.
Last year Bow managed to convince Roly to splash on a Portugal bonding trip, which was the beginning of a journey of oneness and desire that ended on the Wembley steps.
This weekend Bow, his coaching team and the players head to Spain for a similar exercise.
“The first part is pure running and trying to get fitness to a decent level. We’ll do double and sometimes triple sessions during the day.” (more)
Carefully planned fitness sessions a world away from running up and down the east terrace and hurdling benches on the Valley pitch in the 70’s. Men did not wear snug sports bras in those days either. Fact.
On Thursday the Addicks play a behind closed doors friendly against CS Gaz Metan Mediaș. The Romanian side finished 7th in Liga 1 last season.
About 19 players, a similar number of players that Bowyer and Jacko had at their disposal last year in Portugal will make the journey to Spain. That number will include new signings Tom Lockyer and Chuks Aneke, a couple of youngsters and happily Jonny Williams.
