1,500 Addicks turned Adams Park into a home match last night as they sung and roared on Charlton to victory.
It wasn’t a classic but Lee Bowyer’s men ground and fought out a hard earned win against a decent Wycombe side. Bowyer juggled his squad around to rest a few legs and it was returning skipper Jason Pearce who got the vital goal expertly volleying in a cross from a lovely Josh Cullen cross on 33 minutes.
Wycombe started the quicker and attacked with real intent, and there were few awkward moments. Again Dillon Phillips was immense in goal as were Bauer and Pearce in front of him. Addicks fans were also full of praise for Igor Vetokele as well who caused all manor of problems with his constant running. Just a shame that his injuries have slowed his pace that he had when he first came to SE7.
It was 3 excellent on-the-road points and I am sure there were a few croaky voices this morning.

Elsewhere: Sunderland were held at home by Burton 1-1. Rochdale had a vital win at Accrington.

Another good result. Pearce got the goal in what appeared from TV highlights to be open play – can you confirm?. To score that goal in that manner needed a player of physical presence to get between two defenders.We must seriously consider utilising Pearce or Sarr in advanced positions,particularly if Taylor gets injured. Although Vetokele is working hard he does not have the physical attributes now to lead the front line and there are no other forwards who are suitable In the past.Paul Went played up front a few times as did Matt Elliot when at Leicester.
Rierti – the goal was from open play. From a peach of a Cullen cross.
It was open play, although we’d had a corner earlier in the move hence Pearce was in their box and lurking but Cullen put the ball on a sixpence, expertly splitting the defence and then Pearce finished equally well, opening his foot at the moment of contact and effectively sending the keeper the wrong way. And yes I had a sore throat the next day…a real team performance on the pitch and in the stands behind the goal.
Going back a few years now Lennie often used Peter Shirtliff as an emergency centre forward when we were behind – hence the two goals he scored v Leeds in the play off match at St Andrews.
