Lowest ever crowd

A bit like the classic Huddersfield 7-6 game many more people said they were at the Bradford City Full Members Cup game at Selhurst than were actually clicked through the gates.
For the longest time, 31 years to be precise, those official 817 people represented the lowest ever attendance to watch a professional first team Addicks home match in our history. Most of us thought that now back at The Valley we would never see a crowd that low again, but no one accounted for the idiots at EFL introducing the pointless Checkatrade Trophy, nor did we account for the curtain of comatosity that one Roland Duchatelet has brought.
A year ago Fulham’s U21’s showed up at The Valley and just 741 joined them, with probably a fair few from down the river. Then last night Swansea’s youngsters travelled from the valleys and another new record low crowd was set.
740 the official crowd last night including, wait for it, 4 from Swansea, and meaning in all likelihood that there were actually more Addicks there last night than there were in the crowd against Fulham a year ago. Most definitely the Robinson v Bowyer factor.
Only Charlton of course could win a group game 8-0 and still go out. Interesting to note that there were more than a couple hundred Addicks in the crowd of 793 at Stevenage for that record-breaking game. A slightly better record to reminisce over in the future.
After the Swans beat us Jacko came into a media room, which I am sure was deserted and declared:
“In the grand scheme of things, is it a disaster? No, because of just the fixture pile-up we’re faced with and the injuries we’ve got in the squad obviously is stretching us right to the limit at the moment.”
In happier news the Addicks U23, which was considerably weakened by most of that regular side currently on first team duty, went to previously unbeaten this season Cray Wanderers in the Kent Senior Cup an won 5-1. Terrique Anderson only made his Addicks debut yesterday, scored twice. We haven’t won the Kent Senior Cup since 2014/15. We are due. Like we are due a Wembley appearance which that 1986/87 Full Members Cup competition did give us.

Effing Louise Mendez the know it all appears everywhere and him and his Charlton Live?pass crew with Smith know everything about CAFC and the World at large and condone live and insulting remarks live on match day broadcast.
Amusing post by theway and you post some great stuff.
I suspect the crowd was a record low, because anyone from Danson and further east (Bexley, Crayford, Dartford, Gravesend etc), who were driving, couldn’t get to the game. I tried twice over a 30 mnute period to gain access to the A2, only to be greeted by a complete and utter logjam. Tried to make progress on ancillary roads only to be greeted by more slow moving and lengthly tailbacks. Gave up in the end.
