Walsall 0 Charlton Athletic 2
Nice one. Another straightforward result. This time on the road at Walsall. A clean sheet always gives you a chance and once more the defence, changed from Saturday, was strong and robust, fielding any flurries of Walsall activity.
We started well and grabbed an early goal from the spot. It’s very noticeable that we are winning more penalties than we have for many a year. 5 minutes in. The penalty was won by Fosu and Taylor dispatched. That’s 8 penalties this season. Lyle has scored four, but has missed two. Fosu and young Stevenson have put one away each.
Taylor was a surprise name on the team sheet but wanted to play. I would assume he will be rested on Sunday. Sadly we can’t escape a game without an injury or two. Josh Cullen and Igor Vetokele BOTH dislocated their shoulders. That’s never good. Igor has had one hell of a time with injuries and Cullen will be missed.
Both Reeves and Anfernee Djiksteel missed out tonight following injuries on Saturday. I would think Bowyer and Jacko will play a much different side at Mansfield on Sunday.
Similar to Saturday 1st half we were good, on the front foot and passing the ball quiuckly. 2nd half albeit with an added goal from Bielik, we simply saw the game out.
The table looks a lot better tonight, which shoes how changeable it can be. Very nice win and my absolute respect to the Addicks who made the journey to cheer the boys on tonight.
Addicks at The Bescot: Albury Addick; Doctor Kish.
Bow: “We made four changes and they all stepped in. Pratley in the middle of the park – outstanding. Naby left back, obviously we know he’s uncomfortable out there but brilliant. We had Tariqe outstanding, I think that’s the best game he’s played this season. Igor, it’s unlucky you know. He looked good as well up until he got injured.”
Elsewhere: Just the one other game tonight with Blackpool winning at Gillingham.
